Formal education such as a degree in sound engineering or music technology can be beneficial, along with proficiency in industry-standard software and equipment. Entry-level positions may require internships or apprenticeships to gain practical experience in a professional studio environment.

These professionals operate recording equipment, manage sound quality, and assist artists during production, often requiring knowledge of audio software and technical skills. Additional roles may include session musicians, studio managers, and administrative staff.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Recording Studio role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a recording studio, you need a solid understanding of audio engineering principles, music production, and often a degree or certification in audio technology. Proficiency with digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools or Logic Pro, audio mixing consoles, and studio hardware is essential. Attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to collaborate creatively are standout soft skills in this environment. These skills ensure the technical quality of recordings and foster productive relationships with artists and production teams.

What Are Jobs in a Recording Studio?

Studios manage their schedule to ensure clients get in as often as possible. At small or independent studios, employees may perform a wide range of duties and responsibilities. Some production companies use private, in-office studios, and the specifics of the job can change based on the type of company. Independent facilities have more advertising needs, while in-office studios likely collaborate with a separate marketing department.

How much can a recording studio make?

A recording studio's income varies based on location, client base, and services offered. Studios typically earn revenue from recording sessions, mixing, mastering, and rental fees, with annual earnings ranging from tens of thousands to several hundred thousand dollars for established facilities. Income depends on factors such as equipment quality, reputation, and the number of projects completed annually.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in a recording studio, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in recording studios often encounter challenges such as tight project deadlines, balancing creative input from multiple stakeholders, and troubleshooting technical issues with equipment or software. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are essential for managing multiple sessions and client expectations. Staying up-to-date with the latest audio technology and fostering a collaborative environment can help resolve problems quickly and keep sessions running smoothly. Teamwork and adaptability are key to overcoming these challenges and delivering high-quality recordings.

Description:

About CamFit

CamFit is a multi-studio Orangetheory Fitness franchisee committed to delivering a world-class fitness experience through science-backed, heart rate-based interval training. In 60 minutes, our members reach their optimal heart rate zones, burn calories, and build a stronger, healthier life. Every role at CamFit is a role in changing lives.

We are a people-first organization. We hire for energy, develop for excellence, and promote from within.

Why This Role Matters

The Studio Manager is the business operator of the studio. While the Head Coach owns the fitness product, you own everything else: sales performance, sales staff development, member experience, financial health, and the culture that holds it all together.

A great Studio Manager makes the Head Coach better, the team stronger, and the studio a place people want to work and work out.

Job Summary

As Studio Manager, you lead day-to-day operations, drive revenue, develop your team, and create a studio culture built on energy, accountability, and genuine care for members.

You partner closely with the Head Coach to align on the fitness product, but the business is yours to run. You will own sales performance, member experience, staffing, operations, financial controls, and studio culture.

What You'll Do

Sales Leadership & Revenue Performance
  • Own studio revenue performance, including new memberships, renewals, and retail.
  • Execute lead generation strategies, community outreach, and in-studio marketing campaigns.
  • Oversee the full sales process from inquiry through membership conversion.
  • Hold the team accountable to sales activity, follow-up, conversion, and performance targets.
  • Provide weekly KPI reporting to the Regional Business Manager.
  • Use performance data to identify gaps and take action quickly.
Intro Process & Membership Conversion
  • Own the intro process on the sales side from arrival through membership close.
  • Ensure sales associates are trained, confident, and consistently executing the intro process.
  • Support membership growth through clear recommendations, strong follow-up, and confident closing.
  • Track intro conversion as a leading indicator and address gaps immediately.
  • Reinforce that membership growth is a shared studio leadership responsibility, not just the Sales Associate or coaching team’s job.
Team Development & Staffing
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop all studio staff.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching conversations, and individual development check-ins.
  • Hold staff accountable to performance standards with consistency and care.
  • Partner with the Head Coach to build a high-performance, positive studio culture.
  • Ensure the studio is fully and correctly staffed.
Sales Associate Leadership
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop sales associates.
  • Hold sales associates accountable to daily and weekly performance targets.
  • Manage front-of-house culture and ensure a consistent, high-quality member experience.
  • Conduct sales associate payroll review, timecard accuracy, and processing.
  • Ensure the front desk team understands how to support the full member journey from inquiry to membership.
Community Building & Studio Culture
  • Build a studio community that members talk about, where people come for the workout and stay for the people.
  • Create regular touchpoints with members beyond class, including recognition, milestone celebrations, challenges, and events.
  • Model the energy, professionalism, and culture you expect from the team.
  • Create a studio environment that feels clean, welcoming, accountable, and high-performing.
Talent Pipeline & Team Building
  • Actively recruit coaches and sales associates from within the member base.
  • Personally invite high-potential members to consider a role at CamFit.
  • Support interested members in pursuing approved fitness certifications.
  • Maintain an ongoing pipeline of qualified candidates so the studio is never hiring out of desperation.
  • Own staffing as a leadership responsibility, not just an HR function.
Studio Cleanliness, Facilities & Operations
  • Maintain a second-to-none cleanliness standard across all areas of the studio, including the fitness floor, lobby, locker rooms, restrooms, and back-of-house areas.
  • Address cleanliness issues immediately and hold the team accountable to studio standards.
  • Report all repair and maintenance needs through the company’s facilities ticketing system.
  • Follow up on open maintenance tickets until they are resolved.
  • Execute and document monthly preventative maintenance standards on schedule.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of studio equipment and facility systems so issues can be identified before they become outages.
  • Ensure the studio is clean, organized, operationally sound, and ready for members every day.
Studio Operations & Financial Management
  • Lead and manage all aspects of studio operations, including sales systems, scheduling, and compliance.
  • Manage studio budget, including payroll, inventory, cost controls, and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure adherence to all brand standards, corporate policies, and operational systems.
  • Handle escalated member concerns with professionalism and a resolution-focused approach.
  • Keep the studio operating with consistency, urgency, and accountability.
Marketing & Community Outreach
  • Plan and execute promotional events, member engagement initiatives, and studio contests.
  • Build relationships in the local community to drive awareness, referrals, and new membership.
  • Represent CamFit and Orangetheory Fitness with professionalism at external events and partnerships.
  • Partner with the team to create in-studio campaigns that support growth and retention.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–3+ years of sales leadership and management experience; fitness industry experience strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets
  • Experience managing teams, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM or scheduling software; MindBody preferred
  • Flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sports Management, Exercise Science, or a related field
  • Experience managing a P&L or studio-level budget
  • Familiarity with Orangetheory Fitness brand standards and operations

This Role Is Right For You If...

  • You are as energized by a strong sales day as you are by a packed class.
  • You can develop a team, run the P&L, and still be the first person to welcome a new member.
  • You hold a high bar and you hold it consistently, not just when it is convenient.
  • You want to build a studio that people in the community talk about.
  • You understand that sales, service, operations, culture, and accountability all have to work together.
  • You are ready to own the business side of a studio and lead from the front.
