A Recon Manager often encounters challenges such as tight turnaround times, managing workflow bottlenecks, and ensuring consistent quality across reconditioning tasks. Balancing priorities between rapid vehicle readiness and thorough, high-standard work requires close coordination with technicians, parts suppliers, and sales staff. Effective Recon Managers use scheduling software, clear communication, and proactive problem-solving to minimize delays and maintain efficiency. Regular training and process reviews can also help address recurring issues and support continuous improvement.

A Recon Manager, short for Reconditioning Manager, is responsible for overseeing the process of inspecting, repairing, and preparing vehicles—often used cars—for resale at dealerships or auction. They coordinate teams of technicians, set quality standards, and ensure that vehicles are reconditioned efficiently and cost-effectively. Recon Managers also track inventory, manage budgets, and work closely with sales and service departments to meet business goals. Their role is crucial in maximizing vehicle value and customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a recon manager?

To thrive as a Recon Manager, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and experience in inventory control or automotive reconditioning, often supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. These competencies ensure efficient vehicle reconditioning processes, cost control, and high-quality outcomes for dealership operations.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Support position is an entry-level, hands-on role within the Genie Reconditioning operation. This position performs assigned support and manual labor tasks related to the cleaning, preparation, handling, and movement of Genie aerial equipment as it progresses through the reconditioning process. Work is task-based, closely supervised, and completed in accordance with established procedures and work instructions. Production Support employees assist multiple departments—including wash, blast, paint, mechanical, and final assembly—by performing essential activities that support production flow. This role is intended as a foundational position for individuals beginning a career in an industrial manufacturing environment and includes structured on-the-job training

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Assist painters, mechanics, and technicians by staging materials, handing off tools, and completing preparatory tasks as assigned.

• Load and unload parts, components, or equipment from delivery vehicles, staging areas, or internal transport locations.

• Operate basic hand tools and shop equipment under supervision and in accordance with established procedures.

• Move units, parts, and components between workstations using carts, hoists, or forklifts when properly trained and certified.

• Participate in daily or weekly production meetings and departmental huddles, including communication of company updates and performance.

• Participate in and support the principles of Open Book Management.

• Perform general shop housekeeping duties, including sweeping, trash removal, and maintaining organized work areas.

• Follow all work instructions, safety procedures, and quality requirements as directed.

• Employees may perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. The frequency and duration of the duties described may vary based on production needs, equipment condition, and workflow requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

• Willingness to work in a physical, fast-paced industrial environment

• Reliable attendance and consistent work habits

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Follow all Quality Management System (QMS), departmental and company procedures applicable to assigned tasks.

• All employees are required to follow and promote all company and regulatory safety and environmental standards and always exhibit safe work practices

• Possess a positive attitude and promote a positive work environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in a heavy manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, oils, grease, and varying temperatures for moderate to extended periods. Significant safety considerations exist due to proximity to moving equipment, use of tools and machinery, and handling of medium-to-heavy materials. Occasional office or desk-based work may be required. Employees must follow all safety standards and wear required personal protective equipment, including safety-toe shoes and safety glasses, in designated areas. This employee must maintain knowledge of Haz/Com regulations and requirements.
