Description
Support NASA missions! The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science and flight operations center for NASA's flagship observatories located on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland. Learn more about our missions.
The IT Support Services Branch (ITSS) within the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) at STScI is seeking a Service Desk Specialist I to join the Service Desk team. This role provides world-class customer service and technical support to STScI staff and partners.
This position supports a hybrid work schedule. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the local market (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC, or WV). This role requires on-site presence three days per week.
Responsibilities
  • Manage user accounts within Active Directory, including provisioning, deactivation, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Provide technical support to staff and partners through in-person assistance, telephone, and various collaboration tools.
  • Execute routine operational tasks in accordance with established procedures; proactively identify and escalate issues to second- or third-tier support and management as needed.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member to achieve organizational goals.

Qualifications
  • Strong technical skills, including knowledge of hardware, software, and operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in an interrupt-driven environment.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field.

Additional Requirements
  • ITAR clearance required.
  • Must be able to work on-site three days per week.

Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. STScI offers an excellent benefits package, including:
