Here, you will make an impact by:Design, integrate, and commission smart converting systems, with primary focus on fully automated slitters that ingest upstream inspection data for recipe management, cut planning, and dynamic controlDesign and develop automated inspection systems using expertise areas such as optics, image processing, and AIWorking within a team setting to solve manufacturing challengesSupport automated converting & inspection systems in a manufacturing environment, including travel to manufacturing locations and on-call support of systemsYour Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (completed and verified prior to start)Two (2) years of experience in either Process Engineering role, vision technology role, or converting technology role in a private, public, government or military environmentAdditional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:Possess expertise equivalent to that which would be obtained in a master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering fieldExperience in converting technology, including roll good slitting and automated slittingExperience in process engineering within a manufacturing or industrial settingFive (5) years of professional experience implementing automated inspection, machine vision, or automated converting/slitting systemsExperience with 3M custom web inspection or commercial web inspection systemsImage processing, signal processing, optics, software, or electronics experience.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent networking skills, exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.Work location:Onsite at 3M Center, Maplewood, MNTravel: May include up to 25% US & international, primarily to 3M manufacturing locationsRelocation Assistance: May be authorizedMust be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without current or future employer-sponsored visa sponsorship (including H1B, STEM OPT extensions, etc.).
