Job Summary
As Senior Sous Chef at Savannah College of Art and Design, you will play a key leadership role in delivering an elevated culinary experience within one of the nation's premier creative university environments. This position supports the Executive Chef in overseeing daily culinary operations, leading kitchen teams, and executing innovative dining programs that reflect the creativity and energy of the SCAD community.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and entrepreneurial culinary professional who thrives in a fast-paced, hospitality-driven environment and enjoys creating exceptional dining experiences for students, faculty, staff, and campus guests.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Executive Chef in managing all day-to-day culinary operations across dining and catering services
  • Assist with menu development, seasonal offerings, and creative culinary programming that aligns with SCAD's innovative campus culture
  • Supervise food preparation, cooking, presentation, and service to ensure quality, consistency, and excellence
  • Lead, mentor, and develop hourly culinary associates while fostering a collaborative and positive kitchen environment
  • Assist in managing food costs, labor controls, inventory, ordering, and waste reduction initiatives
  • Execute high-quality catering events, special functions, and campus hospitality experiences
  • Collaborate with culinary and marketing teams to launch new dining concepts, promotions, and wellness-focused initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and company operational standards
  • Maintain organized, clean, and efficient kitchen and storage areas
  • Support large-scale production and high-volume service while maintaining elevated culinary standards
  • Stay current on emerging food trends, global cuisine influences, and modern hospitality practices

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3-5+ years in a culinary leadership role, such as Executive Chef, Sr. Sous Chef, or Sous Chef
  • Associate degree in Culinary Arts, culinary certification, or equivalent professional culinary experience
  • Progressive culinary or kitchen leadership experience in high-volume foodservice, hospitality, campus dining, or catering environments
  • Strong catering and special events experience preferred
  • Experience with batch cooking and complex foodservice operations highly desirable
  • Comprehensive knowledge of culinary trends, food production, sanitation, presentation, and cost controls
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative, and team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and culinary management systems
  • ServSafe Certification preferred
  • Passion for hospitality, culinary innovation, and creating memorable guest experiences within a dynamic campus setting
