The Opportunity

Zurich Canada is currently seeking a post-secondary student or a recent graduate for an Internship/Co-op opportunity within our Portfolio Management team. In this role, you will help provide portfolio insights and market intelligence to management and underwriting teams using tools such as Databricks, Power BI, and Excel. You will gain valuable experience working within a cross-functional team and be exposed to a wide range of business functions across the organization.

Working alongside experienced professionals, you will contribute to meaningful projects while developing analytical, technical, and business skills in a supportive learning environment. This opportunity is part of our internship program and is open to both internship and co-op students.

What you will do

Portfolio Reporting and Due Diligence:

  • Create presentations and reports for management, underwriting teams, and other stakeholders to communicate portfolio performance, insights, and action plans.
  • Analyze and profile new business portfolios as part of pricing and underwriting due diligence activities.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to monitor key portfolio metrics, including retention, portfolio mix, profitability, and rate adequacy.

Underwriting Strategies:

  • Support portfolio reviews by providing analytical insights on Programs, MGAs & Retail business.
  • Prepare performance analyses and business reviews for broker partners, customers, and executive stakeholders as part of new business, renewal, and mid-year reviews.

Data Analytics

  • Provide ad hoc analytical support to brokers and internal stakeholders, including bordereaux data analysis, reconciliation, and validation.
  • Identify trends, opportunities, and performance drivers to support underwriting and portfolio management decision-making.


Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a university degree program in a quantitative or business-related field (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Business, Economics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering).
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada

 

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, and visualization tools.
  • Programming and/or automation skills in SQL, Python, or Databricks.
  • Knowledge of Power BI and advanced Excel functions.
  • Understanding of insurance and reinsurance concepts is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across short- and medium-term project timelines.
  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and ownership in resolving problems with limited guidance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present findings and recommendations to stakeholders. 

At Zurich Canada, we are committed to pay equity. We determine compensation based on objective criteria such as skills, experience, and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $48,750 - $58,500. This range reflects the expected pay for the role across Canada and may vary depending on factors like office location, specific responsibilities, and individual qualifications. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable compensation range, but starting salaries may exceed this range based on a candidate's skills and experience.
