What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Recent Accounting Graduate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Recent Accounting Graduate, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and analytical skills, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Excel, and possibly ERP systems like SAP is highly valuable. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help you stand out when collaborating with teams and handling complex financial data. These competencies ensure accuracy, compliance, and effective contribution to organizational financial goals as you start your accounting career.

What types of tasks and projects can a recent accounting graduate expect to handle in their first year on the job?

As a recent accounting graduate, you'll typically start by supporting more senior accountants with tasks like preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with month-end or year-end financial closings. You may also help with accounts payable and receivable, invoice processing, and basic financial analysis. Early on, you'll likely work under close supervision, but as you gain experience, you might be given responsibility for small projects or parts of larger audits. This foundational work helps you build essential skills and prepares you for more complex assignments and advancement opportunities within the organization.

What are recent accounting graduates?

Job description

About the Role

We're a small, tight-knit accounting team looking for a motivated and detail-oriented accounting leader to join us. This is a great opportunity for someone who has built a strong foundation in accounting and is ready to take ownership, contribute meaningfully, and grow with us. If you're a recent graduate or an early-career professional who wants to do real, hands-on work, not just support someone else's work, we want to hear from you too.

What You'll Do

  • Manage day-to-day accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Own and support the month-end close process, including journal entries and reconciliations
  • Prepare and analyze financial data reports to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement and help inform business decisions
  • Collaborate closely with a small team where your contributions are visible and valued
  • Help identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of hands-on accounting experience (internship or full-time); recent graduates with strong practical exposure are encouraged to apply
  • Working knowledge of AP, AR, and month-end close procedures
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Excel
  • Organized, detail focused, dependable, and eager to take initiative
  • Comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small team environment

hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. M-F
