Job description

Specimen Control And Receiving Tech – Support Services

Work Schedule: 20% FTE, working 4 hour shifts 4pm-8pm Monday thru Friday with some Saturdays 9am-1pm. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Pay: This position may be eligible for a $500 sign-on bonus. Additional components of compensation may include: evening and night shift differential, weekend differential.

We are seeking a Specimen Control and Receiving Tech – Support Services. Responsibilities include receiving specimens and research kits into the laboratory, checking for correct labeling, entering tests into Laboratory Information System, processing specimens, and loading them onto instruments or direct to appropriate work station, technologist, or storage area. Basic instrument maintenance (temperatures, monitoring reagents) and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing). Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Some post-secondary education in a healthcare or a related science field that may include course work in Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnician or Medical Laboratory Scientist degree/certification preferred. 6 months experience in lab, healthcare, customer service or data entry role required. 1 year healthcare or lab related work experience preferred. Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent preferred.
