Job description

The Shipping and Receiving Associate position verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties to quality and productivity standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Receives supplies and materials, sorts by priority; reviews orders to ensure appropriate supplies and/or materials have been received.
  • Reviews paperwork for received items; creates and issues work orders; paperwork and units routed to appropriate department.
  • Operates hand truck or forklift to unload shipments from trucks.
  • Fill out purchase orders requesting shipping supplies.
  • Examines paperwork and unit, packs items, uses computer to generate shipping information for the carrier.
  • Prepares shipments for FedEx, UPS, etc., including hazmat/dangerous goods shipments.
  • Resolves receiving discrepancies by comparing purchase order(s) to delivery documentation
  • Prepares bills of lading; checks items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
  • Inspects shipments for damages or defects; records discrepancies or damages and notifies supervisor and/or purchasing personnel.
  • Traces lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments; initiates proof of delivery documents.
  • May maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Observes all safety and security procedures and protocols.
  • Uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Reports potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:
  • High School Diploma

Experience:
  • 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
