The Real Time Trader serves as the operational and commercial nexus between OxyChem's production facilities, regional transmission operators, and independent system operators. Operating in a high-intensity market setting, the incumbent will deploy sophisticated analytical, decision-making, and risk management skills to optimize schedules, react to rapidly changing conditions, and manage financial exposure in real time. The candidate will work rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to manage all of OxyChem's power generation and load in the ERCOT and MISO markets.
Job Responsibilities:
โ€ข Monitor, evaluate, and implement scheduling, dispatch, and trading of physical power/ancillaries around OxyChem's assets to optimize performance and profitability.
โ€ข Continuously monitor the status of all IT systems and models used to submit asset parameters to the markets (Gen Models for Taft, Ingleside, and Battleground); identify issues such as loss of telemetry or visibility to markets, and direct Oxy IT or plant personnel to resolve them promptly, while keeping grid operators informed.
โ€ข Serve as OxyChem's primary real-time contact during critical electrical grid events - including directing assets to adjust load during high price events or ensuring cogen facilities follow grid operator dispatch set points.
โ€ข Maintain situational awareness of market conditions and monitor asset parameters, ancillary services, telemetry, and outages to ensure compliance with market rules while ensuring optimal profitability.
โ€ข Communicate effectively with asset operators, asset managers, and real-time trading colleagues on market events and analysis, fostering a consistent flow of information and ensuring strong decision-making.
โ€ข Provide timely, clear communication to ISOs regarding deviations from normal operations to maintain compliance with all rules, regulations, and protocols.
โ€ข Ensure compliance with ISO dispatch instructions, ancillary service deployments, and directives consistent with applicable Regulatory Standards, Protocols, Guides, Business Practice Manuals, and Tariffs.
โ€ข Build and maintain strong industry relationships in key trading regions to cover shortages caused by unexpected load or generation outages.
โ€ข Maintain required training levels to ensure effectiveness and readiness for market rule changes in relevant NERC regions and ISOs.
โ€ข Manage multiple P/L spreadsheets to capture gains/losses.
โ€ข Complete fast-paced training to achieve required competency levels within specified timelines.
Required Qualifications:
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related technical/accounting field preferred.
โ€ข NERC certification, RC/TO
โ€ข Willingness to work a rotating schedule of 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
โ€ข Strong collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with shift partners.
โ€ข At least two years of experience in real-time trading or operations (preferred), or a strong analytical/quantitative background with knowledge of energy trading.
โ€ข Ability to quickly grasp the power scheduling and optimization process across front-office, mid-office, and back-office functions.
โ€ข Procedural and process-improvement mindset with strong analytical skills.
โ€ข Superior attention to detail and organizational skills.
โ€ข Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple tasks.
โ€ข Tech Skills -Excel, MS Teams, API Integration, Power BI, ETRM(OATI) .
Preferred Qualifications:
โ€ข Commercial competency in U.S. energy markets with direct P&L responsibility.
โ€ข Highly detailed and willing to learn with accountability in a team environment.
โ€ข Understanding of system and ETRM (Energy Trading and Risk Management) enhancements.
โ€ข Basic knowledge of market products in ERCOT and MISO.
โ€ข Basic knowledge of NERC requirements, Market Protocols, BPMs, and Tariffs.
