Job Description
Ares is seeking a Principal-level technology leader to serve as Head of Real Estate Technology, responsible for the strategy, platforms, and delivery of technology capabilities supporting the firm's global real estate investment and operating platform.
This role will lead the technology ecosystem supporting the full real estate investment lifecycle, including sourcing, underwriting, acquisitions, asset management, property operations, portfolio management, and investment analytics. The Head of Real Estate Technology will partner closely with real estate investment teams, asset management, property management, finance, and operations to ensure technology platforms enable efficient investment processes, operational scale, and data-driven decision-making.
Reporting into Senior Investment Technology leadership, the Head of Real Estate Technology will oversee the evolution and integration of the firm's core real estate technology stack, including platforms such as DealCloud, Yardi, RealPage, Argus, MRI, and related portfolio management and analytics systems. This leader will drive the modernization and integration of the firm's real estate technology environment, ensuring seamless interoperability between deal management, underwriting tools, property management systems, financial platforms, and enterprise data platforms.
The successful candidate will bring deep experience building and operating real estate investment technology platforms within alternative asset managers, private equity real estate firms, or institutional real estate investors, combined with strong knowledge of the systems and data models that support real estate acquisitions, asset management, and property operations. This role requires a leader who can translate complex real estate investment workflows into scalable technology solutions while partnering closely with investment teams, Data & AI, finance, and operations to deliver an integrated real estate technology platform.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Real Estate Technology Strategy
  • Define and execute the technology strategy supporting Ares' global real estate investment and operating platform.
  • Partner closely with real estate acquisitions, asset management, portfolio management, and property operations teams to translate investment and operational workflows into scalable technological capabilities.
  • Drive the evolution of platforms supporting the full real estate lifecycle, including:
  • Deal sourcing and pipeline management
    - Underwriting and investment committee workflows
    - Acquisition and transaction management
    - Asset management and portfolio monitoring
    - Property operations and tenant management
    - Investment reporting and performance analytics
    • Ensure technology platforms support both investment execution and operational scale across the global real estate platform.
    Deal Lifecycle & Investment Workflow Platforms
      • Lead the development and evolution of the firm's deal management and investment workflow platforms supporting real estate acquisitions and investment management.
      • Oversee systems supporting deal origination and underwriting, including platforms such as:
      • Deal pipeline and relationship management tools (e.g., DealCloud)
      • Underwriting and financial modeling platforms (e.g., Argus)
      • Investment committee workflows and deal approval systems
      • Ensure seamless integration across systems supporting deal sourcing, underwriting, transaction execution, and asset management.
      Property Management & Operational Systems
      • Oversee technology platforms supporting property operations and asset-level financial management.
      • Lead the integration and optimization of property management platforms such as:
      • Yardi
        RealPage
        MRI
        • Ensure strong interoperability between property management systems and investment management, financial, and reporting platforms.
        • Support capabilities including:
        • Property and tenant management
          - Lease administration
          - Property-level financial reporting
          - Operational analytics and portfolio performance monitoring
          • Ensure platforms support the operational needs of both internal asset management teams and external operating partners
          Real Estate Analytics & Investment Data
          • Partner with Data & AI leadership to enhance technology capabilities supporting real estate investment analytics and portfolio insights.
          • Drive the development of a robust real estate investment data architecture supporting properties, tenants, leases, funds, portfolios, and investment performance.
          • Portfolio performance monitoring
            Asset-level operational insights

            Market and portfolio analytics
            • Ensure seamless integration between real estate investment systems, property management platforms, and enterprise data environments.
            Platform Architecture & Engineering Delivery
            • Partner with architecture, infrastructure, and engineering teams to ensure real estate technology platforms are scalable, resilient, and aligned with enterprise technology standards.
            • Drive modern platform architecture supporting:
            • Cloud-based investment platforms
            • API-driven integrations between deal and portfolio systems
            • Secure data environments for investment analytics
            • Oversee vendor management and platform modernization initiatives across the RE technology ecosystem.
            • Ensure platforms meet enterprise standards for security, regulatory compliance, and operational resiliency.
            Leadership & Culture
            • Build and lead a high-performing real estate technology team supporting the firm's global credit investment platform.
            • Foster a culture of technology excellence, innovation, and investment partnership.
            • Act as a senior technology leader representing real estate technology priorities within broader investment technology governance forums.
            Experience & Background
            • 15+ years of progressive technology experience supporting real estate investment platforms within alternative asset managers, private equity real estate firms, or institutional real estate investors.
            • Deep familiarity with real estate investment and asset management workflows, including acquisitions, underwriting, asset management, and property operations.
            • Significant experience implementing and operating real estate investment and property management platforms such as DealCloud, Yardi, RealPage, Argus, MRI, or similar systems.
            • Strong track record partnering with real estate investment and asset management teams to deliver scalable technology capabilities.
            • Experience leading technology teams supporting complex investment platforms and global operating environments.
            Technical & Strategic Expertise
            • Strong understanding of real estate investment technology platforms, property management systems, and real estate analytics tools.
            • Experience integrating deal management systems, underwriting platforms, property management systems, and portfolio analytics platforms.
            • Familiarity with real estate data models covering properties, tenants, leases, funds, portfolios, and investment performance.
            • Experience delivering technology platforms supporting complex real estate investment and operational workflows.
              Education
              • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.
              • Engineering, Computer Science, or quantitative background strongly preferred.

              The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.
              $275,000 - $325,000
