The Ares Quantitative Research Group (QRG) is a pioneer in the application of quantitative analytics to private markets and is the central hub of Ares IQ, the overarching brand for Ares' quantitative analytic capabilities. QRG works across asset classes - Credit, Private Equity, Private Real Estate, Infrastructure, and Secondaries - to provide investible insights to Ares' investment teams, to deepen relationships with Ares' investors, and to help develop new products for the firm. The group is a leader in private market performance measurement, having played a key role in the development of the Direct Alpha and Excess Value measures. It regularly deals with questions that are novel, benefiting from the opportunities created by the under-researched nature of private assets. QRG consists of three teams, Research, Portfolio Insights, and Software, and works closely together with "Ares IQ" quants, who are embedded within Ares investment teams.

Primary functions & responsibilities

  • Develop mathematical and statistical models to solve important problems in private market investing, with the goal of deepening relationships with investors and enhancing Ares' investment management capabilities

  • Engage with clients to address complex portfolio challenges across asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk management, cash flow modeling, and benchmarking

  • Analyze return drivers across private market asset classes and how they interact over different market and economic scenarios

  • Participate in and eventually lead original research to answer novel questions and generate actionable investment insights across private market asset classes

  • Partner with investment teams across Ares to apply quantitative research and portfolio analytics to investment and portfolio management questions

  • Design presentations for internal investment groups, external investors, and conferences

  • Contribute to the design, development, and evaluation of proprietary software tools used in the assessment of private market investment opportunities

Qualifications

Experience Required:

3+ years of experience in alternative investments, private markets, portfolio analytics, investment consulting, asset allocation, quantitative research, investment banking or a related field.

General Requirements:

  • Experience with applying quantitative methods to the investment and/or risk management industry

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey quantitative insights to non-technical audiences

  • Demonstrated experience using Python or another structured language and strong proficiency Microsoft Office Products (Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Knowledge of private market performance metrics, valuation methodologies, and frameworks. Alternatively, similar knowledge of public markets and a serious interest in private markets

  • Familiarity with a variety of asset classes, including equity, credit, and real assets is a plus

  • Experience using statistical models with large datasets

  • Experience with predictive modeling techniques, including artificial intelligence and/or machine learning, is a plus

  • Ability to work both independently and as a productive member of dynamic teams

  • Eagerness to learn and apply novel techniques from academic and practitioner literature

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$145,000.00 - $160,000.00
