Job description

Under the review of Legal Counsel, the Supervisor will provide support and assistance to the overall Legal Department in the administration of Real Estate contracts for the purchase and sale of property. This position will supervise and train Paralegals and Legal Assistants. Primary duties will also include interfacing with the appropriate departments to expedite the acquisition of property and review of contracts and acting as a liaison between the Legal and Real Estate Department to determine solutions to problems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Effectively lead, coach, develop, and establish work assignments for the Paralegals and Legal Assistants.
Make recommendations regarding new hires, terminations, pay, promotions, and other aspects of terms and conditions of employment.
Partner with Associate General Counsel and other Legal Counsel on complex acquisitions.
Initiate contact with outside vendors to obtain title commitments, surveys, and environmental reports needed to perform due diligence. Review, organize, and present collected information to Legal Counsel for identification, analysis, and resolution of due diligence and post-closing issues.
Disseminate information to the appropriate Real Estate team members on each new file from its inception throughout the due diligence phase and after confirmed closing.
Assist Legal Counsel in the preparation, review, and revision of legal documents for the acquisition, disposition, maintenance and repair of real property interests and construction of improvements, including contracts, addendums, easements, deeds, restrictive covenants, etc.
Assist Legal Counsel in the completion of contract contingencies and conditions during inspection/due diligence period of purchase and sale contracts; coordinate closing of real estate purchase and sale contracts.
Assist the Real Estate Department in applications for rezoning and subdividing of property and applications for variances from building code regulations.
Perform legal research as requested by Legal Counsel.
Manage and assign all incoming new requests for easements, assign to appropriate Legal Counsel and track deadlines.
Review and file recorded documents received after closing.
Provide support and assistance to the Real Estate Department with applications for building/DOT permits and with specific issues that arise in the design review and construction process.
Assign Paralegals new purchase contracts, post-closing items, etc. and track workloads.
Act as a liaison with title companies, surveyors and environmental companies when projects are late or incomplete.
Draft Mechanic Lien letters and Notice of Intent to File Mechanic Lien letters, track progress and make sure filed lien releases are recorded.
Work with Associate General Counsel and other Legal Counsel on special projects.
Oversee requests for easements, right of way acquisitions, and environmental testing on properties owned by the company.
Consistently make suggestions to evaluate and re-design processes throughout the Legal Department.
Perform financial analysis and identification of trends in costs of survey, title and environmental reports and assist Associate General Counsel in developing an action plan to address identified concerns.
Provide support and assistance to the Legal Department as needed.
Provide professional services as assigned to promote the best interests of the company.
All other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/ABILITIES
Required:
High school diploma
5-6 years real estate paralegal experience
Strong clerical and time management skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage several different tasks simultaneously
Desired:
Bachelor's degree in Management or Real Estate
Microsoft Access, Excel, Word and Outlook experience
Advanced project management skills
