Job description

Huber Resources Corp. (HRC), a division of J.M. Huber Corporation, combines its decades-long history in timberland management, appraisal, and consulting to provide clients worldwide with the highest level of professional services in the timberland management and forestry consulting sector.  Branded as Huber Resources Corp., our timberland management services have provided full-scope management services on over 1.5 million acres of timberland in the continental United States for over 60 years.  Through acquisitions in 2021 and 2023, our forestry consulting business provides a wide range of appraisal, acquisition due diligence, litigation support, forest modeling, and other consulting services branded as Sewall Forestry & Natural Resource Consulting, which has provided forestry consulting services since 1880.  

Position Summary

To service SFNR clients' natural resource valuation and other consulting needs. This will be accomplished by leading projects focusing on timberland appraisals and non-appraisal consulting assignments.  Assist other SFNR staff with projects as needed. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Conduct or oversee all aspects of producing an appraisal, including research, analysis, and report writing. 
  2. Oversee or assist with natural resource consulting assignments. 
  3. Prepare small to medium-sized proposals and prepare budgets, collaborating with team members where necessary. 
  4. Stay current with appraisal rules and regulations, both in the US and in foreign geographies where we work, and ensure that appraisals and reports continue to meet these standards. 
  5. If required, stay current with International Financial Reporting Standards to ensure that offshore forest valuation work complies with those standards. 
  6. Maintain licensing (CEUs) as a Certified General Appraiser in the State of your principal residence and in multiple other states. 
  7. Maintain collaborative relationships with brokers and other industry participants. 
  8. Maintain collaborative relationships with friendly forestry consulting competitors. 
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
  1. The individual should be thoroughly knowledgeable in forestry consulting technical services, particularly real estate appraisal, forest valuation, and acquisition due diligence. Must have a sufficient understanding of forest inventory (principles, design, execution), GIS, supply, and market studies to develop, review, and submit reports describing these disciplines.  
  2. Should have advanced skills in using spreadsheets and be proficient with word processing software. Working knowledge of GIS. 
Education

 Minimum B.S. degree in Forestry, preferably including forest management, economics, and business, or a related field.

An advanced degree, such as MSF, MF, or MBA, is a plus.

At least 5 years of related work experience as a certified general real estate appraiser.
