Job description

Travel Registered Dietitian - IDDSI Implementation Specialist RD Nutrition Consultants LLC is seeking a Full-Time Travel Registered Dietitian for a minimum 8-week assignment in beautiful Fairbanks, Alaska. This specialized role will spearhead the comprehensive International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) implementation. We offer a highly competitive compensation package, flexible scheduling, and full travel support.

Location: Fairbanks, Alaska Duration: Minimum 8-week assignment (with potential for extension) Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday (Flexible daytime hours) Compensation & Travel Benefits $2,200-$2,400 per week. (Covers compensation, lodging etc) Travel Logistics: Round-trip airfare and rental car are fully reimbursed separately. Core Responsibilities The IDDSI Specialist will be responsible for auditing, updating, and launching standard IDDSI terminology and testing protocols.

Menu & Vendor Management Conduct a comprehensive audit of current texture-modified diets and thickened liquids against IDDSI levels 0-7. Review the current master menu and modify therapeutic menus, recipes, and ordering systems to strictly comply with IDDSI descriptors and framework testing methods. Verify commercial thickeners, pre-thickened beverages, and pureed products with vendors to ensure total product alignment.

Collaborate with IT and informatics teams to update electronic health records (EHR) and diet office software with standard IDDSI terminology as needed. Training & Education Create tailored educational materials, reference visual aids, and competency forms for facility staff. Conduct hands-on training workshops demonstrating IDDSI testing protocols, including the Flow Test, Fork Drip Test, Spoon Tilt Test, and Fork Pressure Test.

Train and certify departmental "IDDSI Champions" across acute care and long-term care units to provide ongoing peer-to-peer floor support. Identify, procure, and distribute necessary testing tools (e.g., standard 10mL syringes, forks, spoons) for kitchens and nursing units. Strategy, Go-Live, & Quality Assurance Design and execute a coordinated Go-Live strategy and timeline tailored to clinical and food service workflows

Monitor initial meal services during the launch phase to troubleshoot real-time issues, support nursing staff, and ensure patient safety. Implement routine quality assurance audits of food production line outputs, patient tray lines, and floor nourishment rooms. Establish post-implementation compliance reporting, annual competency updates, and sustainability protocols to hand off to facility leadership.

Job Requirements Credentials: Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Experience: Strong working knowledge of the IDDSI framework and experience in acute care or long-term care settings is highly preferred. Skills: Ability to teach, lead workshops, and manage a project timeline independently while maintaining excellent communication with facility leadership.
