Rcdd Project Manager information

What is an RCDD project manager?

An RCDD Project Manager is a professional who oversees the design, implementation, and management of telecommunications and data network infrastructure projects. 'RCDD' stands for Registered Communications Distribution Designer, a certification awarded by BICSI that signifies expertise in structured cabling systems. The RCDD Project Manager ensures projects meet industry standards, client requirements, and are delivered on time and within budget. They coordinate with engineers, technicians, and stakeholders to guarantee quality and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RCDD project manager?

To thrive as an RCDD Project Manager, you need a solid understanding of telecommunications design, project management principles, and a BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification. Familiarity with AutoCAD, cable management software, and project management tools like Microsoft Project is typically expected. Strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills help you effectively coordinate teams and manage client expectations. These competencies are crucial for delivering complex structured cabling projects on time, within budget, and to industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by an RCDD project manager during large-scale cabling infrastructure projects?

RCDD Project Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating multiple subcontractors, ensuring compliance with industry standards (like TIA/EIA and BICSI), and managing tight project deadlines. They must also address unexpected site conditions and resolve conflicts between design specifications and real-world installation constraints. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for managing these complexities and keeping projects on track.

Senior Technology Designer (Low-Voltage Systems)

Company Name: RTM Engineering Consultants
Location: Lakewood, CO / Fort Collins, CO
Project Focus: Structured Cabling, Wireless Communications, Audiovisual, & Electronic Security (K-12)
Work Setting: In-Office / Flexible Scheduling (RTO)
Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 + Profit Sharing & 401(k) Matching
Recruited Exclusively By: Luxus | AEC Talent Partners

Position Overview

This is where you stop drafting systems—and start architecting them. As a Senior Technology Designer, you will lead the design and integration of low-voltage building systems that form the digital backbone of modern facilities. From high-density wireless networks to fully integrated AV and security platforms, you’ll take ownership of complex, project-critical technology scopes that directly impact how buildings function.

This role is built for someone who wants influence—not just execution. You’ll operate as a technical lead and client-facing consultant, shaping system strategies, guiding project teams, and elevating internal standards. Backed by a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you’ll have the platform to refine processes, mentor junior staff, and build a long-term footprint in building technology design.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead client consultations and user needs analysis to translate operational requirements into scalable low-voltage system designs
  • Architect integrated technology systems, including structured cabling, wireless infrastructure, audiovisual, and electronic security
  • Coordinate closely with MEP, structural, and civil teams to ensure seamless system integration across all disciplines
  • Manage the full lifecycle of technology scopes, from concept design through construction administration and closeout
  • Develop and refine internal design standards, workflows, and documentation practices to enhance efficiency and quality
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior designers, elevating team capability and consistency
  • Perform field investigations, troubleshooting, and system validation to ensure installations meet design intent
  • Maintain ownership of deliverables, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project timelines

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years designing low-voltage building systems within the AEC environment
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred
  • Certifications: RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) and/or CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) required
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong understanding of low-voltage systems (typically ≤50V), including structured cabling, AV, security, and telecommunications infrastructure
    • Knowledge of pathways, spaces, grounding/bonding, and coordination with electrical power systems
  • Documentation: Expertise in producing high-quality construction documents and specifications for technology systems
  • Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Manufacturer certifications (Crestron, AMX, QSC, Biamp, Extron)
  • Experience managing technology-only scopes within multidisciplinary projects
  • Advanced field troubleshooting and system commissioning experience
  • Familiarity with codes and standards such as TIA/EIA, BICSI, and NEC (Article 725, 770, etc.)
