Job description

The City of Lenexa Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for a Manager on Duty for the Thompson Barn. The ideal candidate has customer service and public relations experience. The primary working location will be at Thompson Barn, with occasional assignments at the Old Town Activity Center, City Hall, and City Special Events venues.

Position Summary:

The Manager on Duty provides concierge-style services for event rentals at Thompson Barn, the Old Town Activity Center, and City Hall. Serving as the primary contact for event clients, this role ensures a seamless rental experience by assisting with setup logistics, technology needs, facility access, and general venue supervision.

Schedule:

This is a year-round, part-time position working 10 to 25 hours per week. Scheduled hours are within the timeframes of:

  • Sunday – Thursday: 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
  • Friday & Saturday: 7:00 a.m. – Midnight
    Flexibility is required for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on city event schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Open and secure event venues before and after rentals.
  • Monitor event spaces and guests to ensure policies are followed.
  • Provide tours to potential renters and explain venue details, policies, and expectations.
  • Assist with technology setup and troubleshooting, including microphones, Bluetooth, sound systems, projectors, Blu-ray, and cable connections.
  • Coordinate with building services staff for room setups and cleanup.
  • Communicate with off-duty police officers during events with alcohol service.
  • Perform light cleaning and restocking of paper products, restroom counters, mirrors, and trash bins.
  • Maintain knowledge of event venue, technology and amenities to assist guests.
  • Report facility and technology issues, lost and found items, low inventory, and maintenance needs.
  • Assist with city-sponsored events and festivals as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • At least two years of customer service experience
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within three months of hire

The rate of pay is $18.75 per hour.

Environment and Physical Factors: This position requires the ability to walk, climb stairs, and sit for extended periods. The role involves lifting objects up to 50 lbs. and performing light cleaning tasks. Additional physical requirements may include crawling, climbing, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and pushing or pulling objects. Work is primarily performed indoors, with occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals.

Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen, physical/agility test, hearing test, and background check.
