Job description

Position Summary

PICA Product Development is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Buyer to join our manufacturing team on site in Derry. This position is responsible for executing the procurement of electronic components, and supplies required to support production work orders, and customer commitments. The ideal candidate has some experience in electronics procurement, strong supplier relationship skills, and the ability to balance cost, quality, inventory levels, in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchase electronic components, raw materials, supplies, and services required to support manufacturing operations.
  • Review purchase requisitions, production work order requirements, and inventory levels to determine purchasing needs.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders while ensuring accuracy of pricing, quantities, delivery dates, and specifications.
  • Work closely with Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Materials teams to ensure timely availability of materials.
  • Monitor supplier performance including delivery schedules, quality, pricing, and responsiveness.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and resolve related issues.
  • Track open purchase orders and communicate status updates to internal teams.
  • Identify and address potential material shortages or supply chain risks.
  • Support inventory management activities to maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Review supplier quotes and negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Assist with new supplier onboarding and supplier qualification activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to purchasing processes, cost reduction, and efficiency.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company procedures, quality requirements, and customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience with electronic procurement tools, such as Luminovo, or various AI platforms.
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • 1+ years of purchasing experience in an electronics manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
  • Ability to read and understand purchase specifications, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Luminovo is very helpful.  ERP/MRP systems, too.
  • Experience within an electronics manufacturing or contract manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of PCB assemblies, electronic components, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with supplier negotiations and cost analysis.
  • Understanding inventory control practices and supply chain management.
  • Experience supporting ISO 9001, AS9000, or ISO 13485 quality systems.
  • APICS/CPIM certification training or purchasing-related training.
