Job description

Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system - reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.

What we need

We are looking for an Advanced System Test Engineer to join our System Test team within our Hardware Engineering organization. Your job will be to develop testing strategies, validation methods, and custom test equipment supporting Symbotic's warehouse automation systems and adapter cell technologies. This role is critical to ensuring new products, controls releases, and system components meet performance, reliability, and quality standards before deployment.

What we do

The System Test team is part of our Hardware Engineering organization, which is responsible for validating the performance, reliability, and readiness of Symbotic's warehouse automation platform. This multidisciplinary team develops test strategies, executes design verification, and drives root cause analysis across complex electromechanical systems. System Test works closely with Hardware, Controls, Software, and Supplier partners to ensure products are production-ready and perform reliably in demanding real-world environments.

What you'll do

  • Write and execute test plans ranging from component-level validation through full system-level equipment testing.

  • Design and implement test methods for internal production teams and external supplier partners.

  • Execute functional, regression, reliability, and recovery testing while delivering accurate results on schedule.

  • Verify new PLC software releases and perform regression testing for bug fixes and controls updates.

  • Develop and commission manual and automated test fixtures, including electrical panels, controls hardware, and data acquisition systems.

  • Produce schematics, panel layouts, and PLC code for fixtures using tools such as AutoCAD Electrical or mechanical fixture designs in SolidWorks.

  • Drive structured root cause analysis of complex system issues and translate large data sets into clear engineering recommendations.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with industrial motion control, automation systems, or complex electromechanical equipment.

  • Strong technical background with Rockwell Automation controls platforms, PLC systems, and industrial hardware integration.

  • Experience with industrial networking and distributed controls systems, including Ethernet/IP architectures.

  • Experience planning and executing multiple test methodologies including functional, regression, reliability, and recovery testing in physical environments.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to diagnose complex multidisciplinary issues.

  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to organize, analyze, and present technical data clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial robotics and machine vision systems.

  • Familiarity with Raspberry Pi or Arduino platforms for prototyping or controls applications.

  • Experience with Jira or similar issue tracking tools.

Our environment

  • Up to 10% travel may be required to support suppliers, customer sites, or other company locations.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel by car or air as needed.

  • Ability to work onsite in a hands-on engineering lab or warehouse environment supporting live automation systems.
