Job description
Accountancy
Location:
Belknap Campus
Time Type:
Full time
Worker Type:
Regular Term (Fixed Term)
Job Req ID:
R108863
Position Description:
The School of Accountancy (SOA) in the College of Business at the University of Louisville seeks
qualified applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. The anticipated start date is
August 1, 2026; however, the start date is negotiable within the Fall 2026 semester based on the
successful candidate's availability and departmental needs. Appointment will be at the rank of
Instructor, Assistant Professor Term, or Associate Professor Term, dependent upon academic
credentials, qualifications, and experience.
The expected teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year. Salary is negotiable within the
established salary band and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will teach face-to-face undergraduate and graduate accounting courses.
Teaching assignments may include intermediate financial accounting, principles of financial
accounting, taxation, commercial law, auditing, accounting information systems, managerial
accounting, or other courses consistent with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs.
The successful candidate will also engage in service activities that support the mission of the SOA,
the College of Business, and the University. Responsibilities include curriculum development,
AACSB Assurance of Learning and accreditation activities, committee service, and serving as lead
instructor for designated coordinated courses. Lead instructor responsibilities include developing
and maintaining course materials, coordinating common course shells and instructional resources
across multiple sections, and preparing common examinations. Demonstrated experience serving
in a lead instructor or course coordinator role is preferred.
Qualifications
For appointment at the Assistant Professor Term or Associate Professor Term rank:
Candidates must possess one of the following:
- A doctoral degree in accounting or related discipline with an undergraduate or graduate accounting degree, from an AACSB-accredited institution with a substantive in-residence doctoral component; or
- A Juris Doctorate (JD) and/or an LL.M. in Taxation (to teach taxation courses).
Candidates who are ABD and expect to complete their degree before the appointment start date
are encouraged to apply.
Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CIA, CMA, CFE) and significant professional experience
are strongly preferred for candidates qualified to teach accounting courses.
Capacity for effective classroom teaching and a commitment to service are required.
For appointment at the Instructor rank, candidates must possess:
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting (or an accounting concentration or the equivalent);
- A professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CIA, CISA, or CFE); and
- At least five years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience.
Candidates from all accounting specialties will be considered. Candidates qualified and interested
in lead teaching roles for Commercial (Business) Law, Taxation, or Principles of Financial
Accounting are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates holding a JD who are qualified to teach
commercial law are particularly encouraged to apply, as the ability to contribute to both the
accounting and legal studies curricula is a significant advantage.
Demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching is required. As a Carnegie R1 research university,
demonstrated scholarly productivity or the potential to contribute to high quality research is
considered a significant advantage at any rank but is not required.
We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of a work visa for this position.
