About the Role
The Rangeland Ecologist assists with field set-up of experimental studies for multi-disciplinary rangeland ecology research and collects data and samples from those studies. Projects may include disturbance ecology and restoration , landscape ecological modeling, targeted grazing, post-fire rehabilitation, and riparian ecology and restoration research. The position reports to the Principal Investigator within the Department of Agriculture, Veterinary, and Rangeland Sciences (AVRS).
Key Responsibilities
• Collect statistical data and samples; maintain field databases and records
• Set up experimental studies for multi-disciplinary rangeland ecology research projects
• Assist with additional data collection, including supporting experiments and studies
• Conduct statistical analysis of research data
• Write annual reports for the Principal Investigator
• Co-author peer-reviewed manuscripts with the Principal Investigator
• Utilize ArcGIS and R statistical software for landscape-scale modeling
Qualifications
Related Experience
• Background in rangeland ecology and management, environmental science, natural resource science, plant ecology, or a related field
• Experience with field sampling in remote locations, plant identification, and transect methods for vegetation and soils
Certification & Licensure
• Valid Nevada State Driver's License, or ability to obtain one within the required time period, to drive a State vehicle
