Job description

PTL is a 100% employee‑owned company who was founded right here in Murray in 1937. We are seeking a full‑time Fleet Manager to support our team and drivers. You will be working in our Murray, KY office at 3200 US Highway 641 North.

Major Duties
  • Demonstrate ownership for assigned board of drivers through observable behaviors and actions. Adjust activities to meet the changing business challenges.
  • Meet required performance levels on Key Performance Indicators, including Miles, Active Rate, Retention, Service and Fuel Compliance.
  • Perform complex clerical and analytical tasks requiring a thorough knowledge of departmental and organizational policies and procedures, including multitasking and being a strong independent worker.
  • The role is all about execution. Must consistently demonstrate attention to detail on start of day, end of day, utilization, service, meeting deadlines for random drug screens, physicals, and other items. Must appropriately hand off open items to support shift before leaving for the day.
  • Maintain the utmost professionalism in communications with drivers and other PTL team members.
  • Establish business partnerships with all assigned drivers. Get to know each other, understand the driver’s expectations and share the FM’s expectations.
  • Continuous improvement. The position requires an ongoing commitment to improve results through the business partnership (relationship) with the drivers. Improvement areas include miles, retention, safety, service and fuel performance.
  • Coach and mentor drivers using the Three Key Principles. Confront unacceptable performance and use the Performance Improvement Process when required.
  • Effectively elevate issues to mitigate problems and keep your fleet moving. Examples are planning or maintenance issues.
Job Requirements / Work Area Conditions
  • Education: High school diploma required; some college experience preferred.
  • Experience: Entry level.
  • Special Skills: Interpersonal skills, organizational skills to maintain workload and follow up amid constantly changing priorities, analytical skills, communication skills.
  • Physical: Keyboard/computer and telephone use.
