Job description

ERM is hiring an onsite Construction Safety Specialist in Spring House, PA to support a key pharmaceutical client's manufacturing facility project. In this critical role, you will be responsible for providing on-site observation of construction activities from an EHS perspective, ensuring health and safety compliance with applicable regulations and existing company standards and contributing to an environment where employee health and safety is preserved. You will be present during all site activities and responsible for all health and safety activities. This is a full-time (40+hrs/week), limited-term role for a duration of 4 months, renewable.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the client's on-site representative for construction health and safety, providing daily field oversight and ensuring alignment with client expectations, project requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Develop project health and safety plans, performance metrics, and contractor onboarding materials; review and provide input on contractor safety documentation such as JHAs, RAMS, and lift plans.
  • Lead and participate in routine site coordination activities, including daily work planning, toolbox talks, and site impact meetings, to anticipate risks, align work fronts, and support safe execution of construction and commissioning activities.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and observations, verify effectiveness of contractor controls (e.g., LOTO, exclusion zones, heavy lifts), and collaborate with contractor leadership to identify and implement corrective actions.
  • Support culture-building initiatives by promoting visible safety leadership, engaging with work crews, and reinforcing safe behaviors and expectations across all contractor teams.
  • Collaborate with project management, operations, and EHS teams to integrate emergency planning, commissioning/qualification readiness, and other cross-functional requirements into day-to-day construction activities.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation of site conditions, safety observations, and project H&S performance, and provide routine updates to client stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, construction management, engineering, occupational health, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of construction EHS experience on major capital projects, with experience supporting owner, EPC, or general contractor environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction regulations and client/owner safety expectations.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction training strongly preferred; additional certifications (CHST, ASP/CSP, CIH, or similar) preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing contractor safety documentation (e.g., JHAs, RAMS, lift plans) and supporting contractor onboarding to client safety programs.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and engagement skills, with the ability to work independently while representing the owner's interests on a busy construction site.
  • Excellent documentation practices, attention to detail, and ability to maintain high-quality reporting in a fast-paced environment.
