Job description

TITLE: Development Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Development

REPORTS TO: Major Gift Officer

POSITION STATUS: Full-time, non-exempt

STARTING SALARY: $55,000

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to stewarding and improving for all the 1,100 acre linear park system that connects 13 diverse Boston and Brookline neighborhoods from the Back Bay to Dorchester. OVERVIEW

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy seeks an energetic, experienced, self-motivated and organized Development Coordinator to bring fundraising, donor database management and donor relations skills to a growing parks stewardship nonprofit that is working to improve the historic and vibrant Emerald Necklace park system. The Development Coordinator works within the Development and External Relations team and interfaces with a variety of staff and volunteer leadership, donors and external audiences to build donor support for the Emerald Necklace parks and the Conservancy's diverse public and educational programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Major Gifts Officer, the Coordinator is charged with helping to develop, implement and manage strategies to meet development goals, in addition to providing essential operational and administrative support to all aspects of the organization's fundraising program:

Database Management and Gift Processing:

Manage the Raiser's Edge database, including maintaining and improving data integrity in individual and gift records, prospect tracking, relationships and more.
Manage mailing lists, constituent queries and database exports.
Enter all gifts and pledges in Raiser's Edge, including checks, recurring gifts, credit cards, online gifts, donor payroll deductions, gifts of stock, matching gifts, event ticket purchases and events sponsorships and more.
Set up Raiser's Edge gift ID's for all funds, appeals, etc. and communicate with the Marketing and Communications department to ensure proper event gift coding
Process all gift acknowledgment letters in a timely manner, customizing correspondence by content or signatory as appropriate. Create and send tribute cards for honor/memorial gifts.
Generate and circulate regular and ad hoc reports to appropriate staff and volunteer leaders.
Coordinate and execute pledge reminder process.
Work with outside vendors and brokers to ensure that gifts of stock are processed and recorded correctly and according to the donor's request.
Act as the first point of contact for donors with questions about giving to the organization.
Process donations made in conjunction with tour and public program registrations.
Create and manage Raiser's Edge user accounts; train other staff on use of Raiser's Edge and assist colleagues with Raiser's Edge tasks.
Generate in-house mailings for donor solicitation and stewardship and communicate printing and mailing needs to vendors.
Make direct calls to donors to solicit donations as directed.
Actively participate in donor engagement at Conservancy events and programs.
Assist with creation of Development reports for quarterly Board meetings and monthly Executive Committee meetings.
Support the Chief Development Officer and Major Gift Officer in preparing for and facilitating Development Committee meetings (approximately bi-monthly)
Provide staff support for 4-5 large, publicly facing events each year with the entire Conservancy team.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful Development Coordinator will demonstrate an understanding of a fundraising office and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The incumbent will be eager to work in a mission-focused non-profit organization dedicated to the stewardship of public green space and increasing access to the Emerald Necklace for all.

The successful candidate will have the following:

Undergraduate degree
A minimum of 1-3 years working in a development office (annual fund experience a plus)
Outstanding skills in Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge and Microsoft Office Suite
A variety of development and event experience including gifts processing, donor prospecting, small and large scale events and donor relations
Excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills
Great attention to detail
Strong follow-through
A strong ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize and reprioritize
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Discretion and ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
