Position Summary
The Service Technician is responsible for providing technical support, diagnostics, repair, configuration, and maintenance of two-way radio communication equipment and related systems. Working closely with the Service Manager, Sales team, and customers, this position ensures products are properly configured, repaired, tested, and supported throughout their lifecycle. The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting skills, excellent customer service abilities, and experience working with RF communication equipment or similar electronic systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Hands-on component-level troubleshooting and repair.
  • Able to independently diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, test, and maintain two-way radios, repeaters, accessories, and related communication equipment.

  • Configure, program, and update radios using manufacturer programming software and firmware tools.
  • Provide technical support to customers, dealers, and the Sales team via phone, email, and remote support.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and system integration issues, escalating complex cases to Engineering or R&D when necessary.
  • Interpret customer requirements and recommend appropriate technical solutions for radio communication systems.
  • Support customers with product installation, operation, programming, and fault diagnosis.
  • Process and manage Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs), including inspection, repair documentation, and customer communication.
  • Maintain accurate repair records, service reports, and other documentation associated with service activities.
  • Perform firmware upgrades, software installations, and system updates for communication equipment.
  • Apply for, activate, and maintain software and device license records where applicable.
  • Configure and test equipment prior to shipment to ensure products meet customer specifications.
  • Manage demo equipment inventory, including preparation, shipping, tracking, maintenance, and returns.
  • Assist with inventory control of spare parts, accessories, and service materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe technical workshop.
  • Identify recurring product issues and provide feedback to Engineering and Product Development to improve product reliability.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic equipment; experience with two-way radios, RF communications, wireless communications, or telecommunications equipment is preferred.
  • Experience with component-level repair, including soldering/rework of SMD components.
  • Basic understanding of RF principles, radio programming, antennas, repeaters, and communication systems.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment such as digital multimeters and communication service monitors is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and service management software.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at a repair bench for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support customers, training, or trade shows.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems.
  • Familiarity with FCC regulations and radio licensing requirements.
  • Experience programming digital radio technologies such as DMR, P25, NXDN, or LTE Push-to-Talk systems.
  • Experience supporting public safety, commercial, industrial, or enterprise communication systems.
