About the Job Radiation Therapist - Ottumwa

General Summary Of Duties The Radiation Therapist works under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist/Manager and is responsible for assisting the Radiation Oncologist in simulation process, delivering prescribed course of radiation to the patients and monitoring patients for progress and side affects. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Chief Radiation Therapist/Manager

Supervises No supervisory duties

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Operate the medical equipment used for radiation therapy including warm up procedures
  • Ensure medical equipment is in excellent working condition through daily QA processes
  • Deliver prescribed course of radiation to patients and maintain accurate records of patients treatment
  • Monitor patients for progress and side affects during their course of treatment
  • Flexible to adjust to various duties, work load volumes, and shifts
  • Demonstrate accountability by maintaining licensure, attending 100% of all mandatory in-services and 89% of staff meetings
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills based on the needs of Radiation Oncology department as evidenced by following through on assigned tasks in a timely manner and determining priorities
  • Demonstrate knowledge and perform procedures regarding the CT simulation process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety
  • Demonstrate knowledge of radiotherapy treatment implementation to include basic dosimetry and isodose plan knowledge
  • Demonstrate knowledge of CT simulation process
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and radiation oncology software programs
  • Basic customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Education

Graduate of a Radiation Therapy Program

Experience

Two years previous experience as a radiation therapist preferred

Certificate/License

  • AART registered
  • Maintain a current Iowa Permit to Practice Radiation Therapy, 24 hours continuing education in a 2-year period
  • Current BCLS certification

Required Citizenship / Work Permit / Visa Status US Citizen / Green Card holder
