Job description

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Must 3-5 years of experience in hardware systems engineering, preferably in radio, radar or phased array systems.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Systems Engineer to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to create and manage various General Dynamics Mission Systems and client technologies. Key Responsibilities
Systems Engineers analyze, design, develop and test General Dynamics Mission Systems systems to ensure the integration of software, hardware, reliability, maintainability, safety and other requirements in the total engineering effort. Additional Responsibilities include formulating operational concepts; performing mission, functional, cost-benefit and risk analysis; selecting systems architecture; and preparing specifications for General Dynamics Mission Systems operating systems to ensure designs meet applicable security specifications. These individuals may also be asked to document security on both new and fielded information systems or provide accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features are considered and functioning properly.

  • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance.
  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs.
  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systemss services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices.
  • Perform requirement analysis and allocation to hardware for phased array radar systems operating in S-Band and X-Band.
  • Develop and simulate architectures for radar subsystems.
  • Create hardware test plans, procedures, and test setups to validate system performance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including RF, digital, and software engineers, to ensure system integration and performance.
  • Conduct hardware testing, including system-level and component-level validation, and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Support design reviews and ensure compliance with program requirements and industry standards.
  • Document engineering activities, including test results, analysis, and design changes, and communicate findings to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in hardware systems engineering, preferably in radio, radar or phased array systems.
  • Strong understanding of radio or radar system architecture and hardware design principles.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret specifications and translate them into actionable requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with RF hardware design and testing.
  • Familiarity with tools for simulation and modeling (e.g., MATLAB, HFSS).
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for radar systems.
  • This position requires a Department of Defense Secret clearance. Candidates with an active clearance or the ability to obtain a clearance will be preferred.
