Radar Systems Engineer
Ursa Space Systems is building ground-breaking solutions to deliver global intelligence to organizations around the world. Through our SAR/EO/RF satellite network, and data fusion expertise, Ursa Space detects real-time changes in the physical world to expand transparency. Our subscription and custom services enable you to access satellite imagery and analytic results with no geographic, political or weather-related limitations.
Job Summary
We are looking for an attentive and driven Radar Systems Engineer to join our team. Your main duties will be developing, implementing, and testing signal processing algorithms to exploit synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery. Day-to-day responsibilities will be primarily focused around developing code in various stages of maturity (from prototype to production level) in a fast paced environment for Ursa's ongoing Airborne Moving Target Indicator (AMTI) effort as well as to solve problems in a multitude of Ursa's other applications. Projects can range from fundamental SAR image processing to geospatial processing to data fusion approaches.
Job Responsibilities
  • Create algorithms to classify objects in SAR imagery.
  • Contribute to state-of-the-art processing techniques to solve customer problems using commercial SAR imagery
  • Contribute to proof-of-concept and production-quality SAR algorithms for AMTI
  • Perform analysis to determine expected performance of processing algorithms for specific use cases
  • Participate in agile software development processes to bring algorithms into operational use
  • Participate in design discussions and code reviews
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate frequently with peers
  • Mentor junior members of the engineering team
  • Lead technical subject areas
  • Provide technical leadership to projects and programs
  • All other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • M.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and/or other technical discipline
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Proficiency in Python and version control software, preferably Git
  • Prior experience developing or working with remote sensing and signal processing algorithms for various sensing modalities, including SAR, RF, or others
  • Familiarity with SAR imaging modes and focusing algorithms
  • Familiarity with commercially available SAR imaging products in various modes
  • Understanding of radar signal processing algorithms, primarily detection techniques
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively
  • Experience working on a cross-functional team developing solutions to complex tasks
  • Active curiosity and a desire to learn and grow as a technical expert
  • A fast, reliable internet connection if you are working remotely is a must
Preferred Skills/Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other technical discipline
  • Familiarity with image processing techniques
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation of radar systems and imagery
  • Familiarity with the compensated phase history data (CPHD) format
  • Experience with moving target identification
  • Experience with computer vision and machine learning techniques
  • Proficiency in deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras).
  • Experience with GPU Analytics and GPU accelerated programming
  • Experience adhering to security best practices
  • Prior experience working with government contracts and/or interfacing with external customers

Compensation
  • $152,000- $163,000 relative to skills and experience

  • We are headquartered in Ithaca, NY and have a remote workforce in other locations throughout the United States.
