Job description

Role: Network Engineer

Location: Conroe, TX (North Houston, TX) (Hybrid 2-3 days/week)

Duration: Long Term

A network specialist who can use the Cisco CLI to configure ethernet interfaces, configure VLANS, understand SD-WAN, policy based routing, check/modify ACLs, Cisco FTD firewalls, diagnose network loops/errors, can rack/stack/cable equipment correctly, is familiar with Cisco/Aruba/HP/other families of equipment, DSLAMS, Cradlepoints, Starlinks, cell extenders, and point-to-point microwave systems including Nanobeams and Airfibers. They need solid customer relationship skills, understanding that 90% of client staff are not technical and innocently do not see the harm in adding Netgear switches to increase access. These candidates will be regularly seen by Texas agency chiefs, executive directors, wardens, corrections officers, and support staff. Ideal candidates know how to "read the room" is a plus, as is organically saying "Yes Ma'am" and "No sir". They are ITD network ambassadors and conduct themselves appropriately. Most of our best staff also run their own homelabs because networking, application servers, firewalls, VPNs, protocols, PAT pools, Proxmox, VMs, and Docker/ECS/Kubernetes are their lifeblood.
