Overview

STN is seeking a Data Center Technician to join our infrastructure team. In this role, youโ€™ll be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and support of our mission-critical data center environment in Chicago, Illinois. Youโ€™ll work hands-on with hardware, cabling, monitoring systems, and server infrastructure, while collaborating with IT engineers to deliver reliable and secure services to our organization and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, networking equipment, and related hardware.
  • Monitor system performance, uptime, and environmental conditions within the data center.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on equipment, including hardware inspections and cable management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, connectivity, and power issues.
  • Assist with hardware lifecycle management (rack/stack, decommissioning, upgrades).
  • Maintain accurate documentation of equipment, workflows, and incidents in Netbox.
  • Ensure compliance with security, safety, and operational standards.

Experience & Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of experience in a data center or IT infrastructure role.
  • Familiarity with server hardware, networking basics, and operating systems (Windows/Linux).
  • Hands-on experience with racking, cabling, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 75ย lbs.) as needed.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team.

Preferred

  • Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.).
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools and ticketing systems.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Network+, or similar.
  • Familiarity with power management, cooling systems, or large-scale data center operations.

Compensation

Full-Time, Exempt

  • Odessa, TX: $40,000 โ€“ $70,000/year, DOE
  • Marshfield, MO: $40,000 โ€“ $62,000/year, DOE
  • Orangeburg, SC: $30,000 โ€“ $60,000/year, DOE
