A Racing Instructor teaches drivers how to improve their racing skills, whether for professional motorsports, amateur track days, or high-performance driving experiences. They provide coaching on techniques such as cornering, braking, acceleration, and racing lines, often through in-car instruction, classroom sessions, and data analysis. Racing Instructors work with individuals of varying skill levels and may be employed by racing schools, private coaching services, or motorsports teams.

What does a racing instructor do?

A typical day for a Racing Instructor involves briefing students on safety protocols, demonstrating racing techniques on the track, and providing real-time coaching as students drive. Racing instructors typically earn between $30,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the type of racing environment. Many instructors supplement their income through certifications, coaching, or working at multiple tracks or racing schools.

How to become a racing instructor?

To become a racing instructor, one typically needs extensive experience in racing or motorsports, along with relevant certifications such as a racing instructor license or coaching credentials. Strong communication skills, knowledge of vehicle dynamics, and safety procedures are essential, and some positions may require a background in automotive technology or racing schools. Certification requirements vary by region and organization, and ongoing training is often necessary to maintain credentials.
