Title: R&D Mechanical Engineer
Location: Onsite at San Diego, CA
Duration: 4 Months
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain R&D manufacturing equipment, coordinating preventative maintenance and calibrations.
• Design and iterate equipment components for existing and novel sensor manufacturing equipment.
• Design and iterate sensor testing components for existing and novel sensor functional test equipment.
• Solve critical engineering challenges related to hardware and electrical testing
• Utilize in-house and out-of-house machine shops to fabricate parts per defined requirements.
• Execute well-designed experiments to assess suitability of designed parts, and critically review the work of others in pursuit of manufacturing and test excellence.
• Draft and edit formal documents related to equipment.
• Gather and summarize efficiency or quality observations, contributing to continuous process improvement of commercialized equipment.
• Hands-on experience with fabrication and/or test equipment. May include machine shop equipment, 3D printers, analytical equipment, vision/test hardware, etc.
Controller/Automation experience. May include LabView, RaspberryPi, Arduino, etc.
• Experience drafting requirements/drawings to achieve a set goal. Could include drafting designs to be quoted, flow diagrams or algorithms to describe a process, etc.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and personal interaction skills.
• Ability to run self-directed projects, manage timelines, and execute projects in a collaborative environment.
• Demonstrated history of strong problem-solving skills.
• Effective technical writing skills, including ability to write protocols, design of experiments (DOEs) and other technical reports and documents.
• Aptitude to contribute to intellectual property development.
Required Qualifications
• BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Device Engineering, or equivalent.
• 2+ years of experience
• Experience with fixture/tool/equipment design using CAD (Solidworks or OnShape preferred).
• Experience designing parts for additive and subtractive manufacturing methods.
• Experience handling a variety of chemicals in a safe manner, including acids/bases and solvents.
