How much do rf validation engineer jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 19, 2026, the average hourly pay for rf validation engineer in the United States is $52.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $39.42 and $63.22 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an RF validation engineer?

RF Validation Engineers are professionals who test and verify the performance of radio frequency (RF) components and systems, such as wireless devices, antennas, and communication modules. They design and execute validation procedures, analyze test results, and ensure that products meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. Their work involves using specialized equipment to measure parameters like signal strength, frequency response, and interference. RF Validation Engineers collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to troubleshoot issues and optimize product performance. This role is essential in industries like telecommunications, consumer electronics, and automotive, where reliable wireless communication is critical.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an RF validation engineer?

To thrive as an RF Validation Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, strong understanding of RF principles, and experience with circuit design and signal analysis. Familiarity with test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and simulation tools like MATLAB is typically required, along with relevant certifications like ISTQB for test processes. Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret results and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These competencies are crucial for ensuring product quality, meeting regulatory standards, and driving innovation in wireless communication technologies.

What are the main challenges faced by RF validation engineers when collaborating with cross-functional teams during product development?

RF Validation Engineers often work closely with design, firmware, and test engineering teams to ensure products meet wireless performance standards. One common challenge is aligning validation timelines with fast-paced development cycles, which can require balancing thorough testing with tight deadlines. Effective communication is key, as RF issues may involve complex interactions between hardware and software, requiring detailed documentation and clear feedback. Proactively collaborating and staying adaptable helps address unexpected problems and ensures high-quality product releases.

What is the difference between Rf Validation Engineer vs Rf Test Engineer?

AspectRf Validation EngineerRf Test Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering, RF or CommunicationsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering, RF or Communications
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, testing facilities, R&D teamsTesting labs, production lines, field testing
Industry UsageWireless, telecommunications, mobile devicesWireless, telecommunications, mobile devices
Primary FocusValidating RF performance and complianceExecuting RF tests and troubleshooting

Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and work in related environments within the wireless and telecom industries. The Rf Validation Engineer focuses on validating RF systems and ensuring compliance, while the Rf Test Engineer primarily executes tests and troubleshoots RF issues. They often collaborate but have distinct responsibilities in the RF development process.

Are RF Validation engineers in demand?

RF Validation engineers are in demand due to the growing need for wireless communication devices and 5G technology. They require expertise in RF testing, signal analysis, and tools like network analyzers, with job opportunities increasing in telecommunications, consumer electronics, and aerospace industries.

Job description

The Analog Validation Engineer / Architect is responsible for comprehensive validation of key product indicators (KPI's) as defined in the system compliance matrix for all analog circuitry in any given platform. This means understanding everything that needs to be measured and how to do those measurements in the most highly automated fashion possible. This also means reporting out those measurements in the most concise, clear and comprehensive possible ways. The Analog Validation Engineer is responsible for assuring all instrumentation, scripting and boards are prepared prior to silicon arrival on the bench.

Job Description:

  • Build parametric validation plans from electrical specifications.

  • Write software to configure device under test (DUT) for required test cases.

  • Create hardware automation sequences to perform parametric measurements over process, voltage, temperature, and DUT configurations.

  • Analyze parametric data to report pass/fail/margin to electrical specs and generate summary reports.

  • Interface with Design, Product & Test Engineering, Applications, Software, Product Analysis teams to debug IP-related issues.

  • Research and recommend hardware required to perform required measurements.

  • Generate hardware design requirements and participate in schematic and layout reviews.

Job Qualification:

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with a minimum of 12 years of industry experience.

  • Experience with high-speed/RF lab equipment including oscilloscopes, BER testers, vector network analyzers, phase noise analyzers.

  • C programming experience. TestStand and Python a plus.

  • Data analysis using Excel, JMP, and/or PowerBI.

  • Debug of hardware setups and schematic reading.

  • Familiarity with SerDes validation and Ethernet IEEE 802.3 protocols desired

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail for an understanding of silicon, board, and software interactions.

  • AI prompting for software generation a plus.
