Job description

Second Shift D476, Quonset Point Construction Support Engineering, has a Systems Engineering position available.  Our engineering and design group is responsible for providing on-site deck plate support for all second shift operations on the Quonset Point facility for both the VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class including structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical construction.

Responsibilities include the resolution and troubleshooting of second shift construction issues, integration with second shift Quonset Point operations and support groups, and liaison support between second shift operations and various stakeholders. Candidates will function as an engineering multidisciplinary representative supporting VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class while focusing on providing deck plate support to second shift operations at the Quonset Point facility.  Candidates will be required to disposition/review engineering reports, address design issues, provide UNSAT responses, ensure timely resolution, and work independently.  Candidates will engage with operations, ship’s management, quality assurance, support groups, QP test and planning, communicate assessments to operations, provide technical advice/guidance, and perform or assist with continuous improvement projects.  Candidates will also be required to coordinate priority COLUMBIA or VIRGINIA Class construction issues with first shift and provide follow-on support for any priority issue being addressed by first shift.

Newly hired personnel will be assigned a mentor to assist in learning the above roles and responsibilities.


Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in civil/structural engineering 
  • 0-1 years of post-graduate engineering experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance

Preferred:

  • Capstone Project Leader
  • Experience with troubleshooting and technical problem solving
  • CAD experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

  • Candidates possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Candidates must be able to take initiative and work independently.
  • Candidates must be highly motivated and able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment.
  • This position requires physical interfacing in manufacturing shops and on submarine modules, including climbing and accessing confined space
