With views along the Monongahela river, the Pittsburgh office is in the heart of this new state of the art development.
This role is based in our Pittsburgh office and requires 5 in-office days each week.
Mission Summary:

As a Senior PLM/PDM Engineer, you will ensure Motional's PLM/PDM systems and engineering toolchains operate smoothly and reliably. You will be the go-to expert for resolving and escalating issues related to CAD tools, data management, and PLM-ERP connectivity. You'll work cross-functionally with engineering, design, operations, and supplier teams to support day-to-day development activities while driving continuous improvement in processes and documentation.

What you'll do:

  • Ensure CAD tools, PLM/PDM systems, and engineering applications function properly; investigate, resolve, or escalate issues as needed.
  • Develop and maintain documentation standards for the Hardware Engineering organization.
  • Create and update CAD parts, assemblies, and libraries-including vehicle assemblies and vendor-provided models.
  • Generate detailed 2D drawings (detail, section, assembly) following drafting standards and GD&T best practices.
  • Support product development, sustainment initiatives, and internal department projects.
  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, and technicians to ensure engineering documents and drawings are complete, accurate, and consistent.
  • Perform drawing checks and manage engineering change orders (ECO/CO), including BOM updates and routing.
  • Manage file structures, metadata, references, and overall CAD data organization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve CAD-related issues across the organization.
  • Create, maintain, and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Maintain and organize the CAD library to support scalable design workflows.
  • Work closely with internal and external fabrication teams to support design release, scheduling, and installation on vehicles or hardware systems.

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with CAD data management systems; CATIA V5 and SolidWorks strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools (preferably CATIA V5 or SolidWorks).
  • Skilled in developing 2D layouts in CATIA or SolidWorks.
  • Solid working knowledge of GD&T principles.
  • Experience with PLM tools, ideally PTC Windchill.
  • Deep understanding of automotive and consumer-electronics connection systems.
  • Ownership mindset with the ability to drive the CAD documentation process end-to-end-from design and release through fabrication, installation, schedule coordination, and change management.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work proactively across global, cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word/Excel or Google Docs/Sheets.
  • Experience with Jira, QuickBase, NetSuite, or Zip is a plus.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to support production schedules and team priorities.
  • Ability to multitask across multiple projects and timelines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience with a proven ability to apply engineering principles in real-world applications.
