JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Quarry Operator
Reports to: Quarry Superintendent
Location: Texas Lehigh Cement – Buda, TX Plant
FLSA: Full-time; Hourly Salary Range: $29.71 - $31.45

Job Summary:
The Quarry Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment within the quarry to extract raw materials, ensuring safe and efficient production while adhering to all safety regulations as per company standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Safely operate various quarry equipment including front end loaders, excavators, bull dozers, rock crushers, and haul trucks to excavate and load raw materials.
• Monitor the quality of extracted materials, ensuring they meet required specifications.
• Conduct pre-shift inspections of equipment, perform basic maintenance tasks, and report any malfunctions or necessary repairs.
• Maintain production targets and optimize equipment performance to achieve efficient quarry operations.
• Adhere to environmental regulations and minimize the impact of quarry activities on the surrounding area.
• Communicate with other quarry personnel including supervisors and loaders to coordinate operations and ensure smooth and safe workflow.
• Observe all company safety policies, established procedures, and maintain clean and organized work areas on a continuous basis.
• Participate in safety meetings, training, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Other job duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Proven experience operating various heavy equipment in a quarry or similar environment
• Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures in a quarry/mine setting
• Strong hand/eye coordination with the ability to operate hand and foot controls.
• Ability to perceive depth and maintain good vision at close range and distances up to 150 feet.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to identify equipment issues.
• Ability to work various shifts, including rotating, extended hours, and respond to call outs.
• Ability to work outdoors in demanding physical conditions includes walking over rough and uneven surfaces, climbing ladders up to 20 feet and stairs, bending, pushing, pulling, and working in awkward positions, working in confined space, lifting and carrying materials up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb on and off equipment for operation and servicing.
• Ability to sit and operate heavy equipment for extended periods, up to 10+ hours per day.
• Ability to efficiently work both as a team and individually
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and on radio.
• Ability to pass required background checks, physical examination, and drug screening.

Education/Experience:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent required
• Experience working in a cement or other aggregate quarry environment preferred but not required.

Working Conditions:
• Regular exposure to dust, loud noise, heat, dirt, and all-weather conditions
• Work at elevated heights up to 225 feet
• Operating mobile equipment may involve jarring motions and vibratory exposure
