Familiarity with machinery such as excavators, loaders, and crushers as well as safety certifications like MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) are typically required. Quarry Operators often encounter challenges such as managing heavy machinery safely, adapting to varying weather conditions, and maintaining consistent production targets. Safety is a top priority, so staying vigilant and following all safety protocols is essential to prevent accidents. Additionally, operators need to be proactive in equipment maintenance and communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations. Continuous training and a strong safety culture can help address these challenges and support long-term success in the role.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Safety Representative at Martin Marietta is a high-impact leadership role dedicated to advancing our world-class safety culture and achieving our collective "Journey to ZERO" incidents. Serving as the ultimate champion of Martin Marietta's foundational "Guardian Angel" safety culture, this role bridges senior safety strategy with daily field operations.

As a senior-level professional, you will be responsible for providing technical safety expertise, mentoring site personnel, and ensuring absolute operational compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and company standards across multiple facilities, plants, or quarries. This position balances highly visible proactive field leadership with rigorous data-driven risk mitigation, ensuring that every employee, contractor, and visitor returns home safely at the end of every shift.

  • Ensure full, uncompromised compliance with all applicable Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
  • Regularly review specialized site zones-such as truck washout areas, material tracking pads, stockpiles, and high-traffic zones-to verify adequate drainage, secure walking surfaces, proper structural integrity, and effective lighting.
  • Oversee the rigorous testing, routine inventory, and proper maintenance of all facility safety devices, including personal protective equipment (PPE), fire suppression systems, spill kits, and specialized first-aid supplies.
  • Continually evaluate site-specific trends and evolving operational footprints to author, update, and deploy standardized Safe Operating Procedures.
  • Lead immediate response and thorough investigations into all site-level incidents and near-misses, utilizing structured root-cause methodologies to determine preventative actions.
  • Track the lifecycle of all corrective and preventive activities to complete closure, issuing formal maintenance work orders for structural or mechanical safety concerns.
  • Author and prepare accurate, timely technical health and safety reports for use by operations, engineering, and the corporate ESH hierarchy.
  • Maintain absolute emergency readiness, providing rapid first-aid direction and organizing specialized mine rescue or emergency management teams as needed.
  • Manage the safety check-in and compliance validation processes for all external parties, ensuring a safe transition from the facility gates to loading zones.
  • Act as an operational bridge between sales teams, central dispatch, and field crews to optimize traffic control, manage equipment congestion, and maintain a safe velocity of site operations during high-volume periods.
  • Gather proactive feedback from contractors and customers regarding site logistics and safety flow, translating these insights into actionable operational improvements.
