How much do quarantine jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 9, 2026, the average yearly pay for quarantine in the United States is $71,279.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $57,000.00 and $84,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in quarantine management roles?

Professionals in quarantine management often face challenges such as ensuring strict compliance with health and safety protocols, managing high-stress situations during outbreaks, and coordinating effectively with multiple agencies or departments. The role can require rapid decision-making and clear communication to prevent the spread of infectious agents or pests. Additionally, adapting to evolving regulations and handling public inquiries with sensitivity are critical aspects of the job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quarantine Officer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quarantine Officer, you need a solid background in biology or environmental science, knowledge of quarantine regulations, and relevant government certifications. Familiarity with inspection tools, data entry systems, and specialized biosecurity protocols is often required. Attention to detail, strong communication, and problem-solving skills help Quarantine Officers enforce regulations and respond effectively to potential biosecurity threats. These skills are crucial to protect public health, agriculture, and the environment from pests and diseases.

What is the difference between Quarantine vs Contact Tracer?

AspectQuarantine
AspectContact Tracer

Quarantine involves isolating individuals who may have been exposed to a contagious disease to prevent its spread, often requiring self-isolation for a specified period. Contact Tracers identify and notify individuals who have been in close contact with confirmed cases, helping to contain outbreaks. While both roles are crucial in disease control, quarantine is a broader public health measure, whereas contact tracing is a targeted activity within that process.

What are quarantine officers and what do they do?

Quarantine officers are professionals responsible for enforcing laws and regulations related to the control of infectious diseases, pests, and other biosecurity risks at borders such as airports, seaports, and land crossings. Their main duties include screening travelers, inspecting cargo and luggage, and ensuring that prohibited items or potentially harmful organisms do not enter or exit a country. They play a critical role in protecting public health, agriculture, and the environment by preventing the spread of diseases and invasive species.
