What is a quantitative model validation analyst?

Quantitative Model Validation Analysts are professionals who assess and validate financial models used by banks and financial institutions. They ensure that these models are accurate, reliable, and comply with regulatory standards. Their work involves testing model assumptions, reviewing model methodologies, and analyzing model outputs to identify potential risks or weaknesses. By providing an independent review, they help organizations maintain the integrity and performance of their risk management and financial forecasting tools.

What are some typical challenges faced by quantitative model validation analysts when assessing complex financial models?

Quantitative Model Validation Analysts often encounter challenges such as interpreting intricate model methodologies, ensuring data integrity, and effectively communicating technical findings to stakeholders who may not have a quantitative background. Additionally, staying current with evolving regulatory requirements and industry standards can be demanding. Collaborating closely with model developers, risk managers, and auditors is crucial to address model limitations and propose actionable improvements, making strong communication and analytical skills essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quantitative model validation analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quantitative Model Validation Analyst, you need a strong background in quantitative finance, statistics, and programming, typically supported by a degree in mathematics, finance, or a related field. Familiarity with statistical software such as Python, R, MATLAB, and model risk management frameworks is essential, and certifications like FRM or CFA are advantageous. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top performers apart by enabling them to explain complex model risks and recommendations clearly. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance of financial models within an organization.

Job description

Who We Are

Tenet3 is a digital knowledge management company based in Dayton, Ohio. We have deep roots in cybersecurity, system trustworthiness, and software/hardware assurance. We develop software products involving advanced machine learning and property graph representations to enhance human cognition. Tenet3 is a recognized leader in creating novel solutions for managing knowledge about complex systems. Our capabilities put data in context so that teams can generate meaningful insights. We leverage our knowledge management platform, MeTRA, and sophisticated AI/ML tooling to rapidly build digital knowledge graphs using open data standards that make them accessible and usable across the lifecycle. Tenet3 is growing by applying our knowledge management platform to systems assurance, cybersecurity, and engineering change analyses.

Why Work Here

At Tenet3, our employee's contributions are highly visible, valued, and rewarded. Be part of a team that supports both your personal and professional growth. Our team thrives in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment where we're continuously pushing the boundaries of what's possible. If you're looking to work in a place that combines cutting-edge technology with a strong sense of culture and team spirit, and amazing benefits, then we are the place for you!

The Role

We are seeking an early-career Solutions Engineer to serve as a technical advocate to support our client's MBSE initiatives at Arnold Air Force Base. This role involves collaborating with engineers to execute solution design tasks, maintain model traceability, and contribute to cross-functional collaboration. You will have the opportunity to develop your technical modeling, documentation, and system integration skills, working closely with our team to deliver high-impact engineering outcomes.

Ideal candidate would be a systems thinker who understands that a model is only as good as the story it tells. This position will bridge the gap between abstract requirements and executable designs, ensuring our client's mission-critical initiatives are traceable, scalable, and robust.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Execute basic system modeling tasks using MeTRA and internal modeling standards
  • Maintain version control and traceability for all modeling artifacts
  • Assist with component-level solution design and basic integration tasks
  • Draft technical documentation, capturing assumptions, constraints, and design decisions
  • Participate in design sessions, demos, and retrospectives to support team alignment and feedback loops
  • Collaborate with the client onsite at Arnold Air Force Base to support the effective use of MeTRA
  • Utilize Python Skills to:
    • Automate repetitive modeling tasks
    • Develop scripts for data analysis and model validation
    • Enhance overall efficiency in MBSE workflows

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Security Clearance: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Python Proficiency: Intermediate Python skills with the ability to automate tasks, perform data analysis, and develop scripts for model validation, utilizing libraries and frameworks relevant to MBSE.
  • MBSE Tool Familiarity: Knowledge of model-based system engineering tools (e.g., Cameo, SysML modeling) and version control systems (e.g., GitLab, GitHub).
  • Systems Engineering Fundamentals: 0-3 years of experience in systems engineering, modeling, or technical problem-solving, with a basic understanding of trade study or comparative analysis techniques.
  • Technical Communication & Articulation: Effective technical writing, diagram creation, and presentation skills, with the ability to capture assumptions, constraints, and design decisions in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Willingness to receive and act on feedback, with a strong desire for growth and learning, and comfort with team standups, demos, and reviews.
  • Systems Thinking: Demonstrated ability to view problems through a holistic lens to understand how individual components affect the total system performance.

Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related technical field.

Benefits

At Tenet3, we offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support both your personal and professional well-being:

  • Generous Paid Time Off: Including PTO, sick days, and floating holidays to help you recharge.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: 100% paid medical, vision, and dental insurance for you and your family.
  • Retirement Plan: 401(k) with company match
  • Educational Support: Reimbursement for higher education, conferences, and self-study programs to support your continued learning.
  • Disability & Life Insurance: Short-term and long-term disability, along with life insurance.
  • Flexible Work Hours: Flex time to accommodate your work-life balance.

Tenet3 provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment. Equal employment opportunity applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leave of absence, compensation, and training.
