Job description

Assistant Professor of Political Science

Assistant Professor of Political Science The Department of History and Political Science at Tuskegee University seeks to hire a tenureโ€‘track Assistant Professor of Political Science beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will play a central role in leading and advancing the departmentโ€™s minor in Public Policy and Public Administration, which serves as a feeder to Tuskegee Universityโ€™s Integrated Public Policy and Development Program (IPPD). The candidate will help strengthen the minor through curriculum development, student mentoring, and engagement with the broader policy community.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate courses including Introduction to Political Science and/or American Government, Quantitative Methods, Policy Analysis and Writing, and additional courses aligned with departmental needs and the candidateโ€™s expertise.
  • Build relationships and opportunities for students in the Public Policy and Public Administration minor at the state and federal levels, including exposure to public service, policy, and professional pathways.
  • Maintain an active program of scholarship, pursue publication in peerโ€‘reviewed outlets, and demonstrate an interest in seeking external funding in support of research and program development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Political Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching.
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and publication.
Skills and Attributes
  • Knowledge of Public Policy/Public Administration.
  • Ability to teach quantitative methods or applied policy courses.
