Your Role: Lead Software Engineer - Finance

Historically, the role of IT has been to provide a reliable ecosystem to run the business, drive efficiencies, and reduce costs. While these areas remain integral, the quickening pace of innovation requires IT to evolve, proactively partnering with the business to enable new digital business models that power new types of customer engagement.

As a Lead Software Engineer at Elanco, you will bring an adaptive set of skills covering Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS), and custom-developed applications. You will be deployed into a multi-disciplined product team, applying your software engineering talent to Elanco's biggest opportunities. Your success will require a highly motivated, innovative mindset and a willingness to guide tangible outcomes by articulating complex technical topics and collaborating with our internal engineering organization to improve engineering across the enterprise.

You will join our Finance Product Team, whose mission is to optimize and automate Financial reporting, controls, and audit readiness for Finance and business teams, executive leaders, and assurance partners. In this role, you will help unlock confidence through trusted, decision-ready data, reduce manual work, and increase efficiency. You will focus on the systems and digital workflows that enable foundational finance processes, including journal entry automation, treasury operations, reconciliation automation, and continuous improvement of the financial close process.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support full-stack, scalable digital products for Finance, embedding security and quality assurance throughout the product lifecycle while balancing the quality and stability of the product with new feature enhancements.

  • Oversee engineering efforts on key Finance initiatives, partnering with the Product Owner and other resources to establish the product backlog, design technical approaches, and ensure alignment with Elanco's engineering standards.

  • Guide continuous improvement by collaborating closely with the Platform Engineering team to shape their products, enhance the developer experience, and identify reusable components that can be made available to the enterprise.

  • Coach and upskill engineers within the product team and play a key role in the broader Engineering community to share best practices, problem-solve, and foster a culture of collaboration.

  • Promote innovation by using modern product approaches like rapid prototyping and engaging with internal and external partners through hackathons and other formats to explore new technologies and achieve impactful outcomes for Elanco.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):

  • Education:Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related field.

  • Experience:A minimum of 5 years of hands-on software engineering experience, including:

    • Working with modern application architecture methodologies (e.g., Service-Oriented Architecture, API-Centric Design, Twelve-Factor App).

    • Designing and delivering digital solutions with a product-mindset in a DevSecOps culture (e.g., CI/CD, TDD).

    • Working with cloud-native design patterns (Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud preferred) and software deployment capabilities like Kubernetes.

    • Scaling API ecosystems and working with modern web technologies (e.g., TypeScript, JavaScript, Node, Next.js/React).

    • Defining and implementing large-scale, transformative digital solutions in complex business and technology landscapes.

  • Top Skills:

    • Proven experience in designing and delivering full-stack, cloud-native digital solutions using modern methodologies (e.g., Service-Oriented Architecture, API-Centric Design, DevSecOps).

    • Demonstrated ability to guide engineering efforts and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, product owners, and other stakeholders to influence technical direction, conveying complex topics with strong organizational and communication skills.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):

  • Experience with Enterprise Procurement business processes.

  • Experience with the SAP ecosystem, particularly SAP S/4 HANA, SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), and integration with tools like OneStream, SAP BPC, and Signavio.

  • Experience integrating AI and Agentic workflows into custom software solutions.

  • Proficiency in Python or other similar languages.

  • Familiarity with modern data systems such as Databricks or Power BI.
