Job description

Salary: $90K-$130K

About the Role

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for leading B&F Contracting's quality control efforts across underground utility construction projects. This role develops and maintains quality standards, inspection procedures, testing requirements, and quality control processes to ensure work is performed in accordance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and company expectations.

Working closely with General Superintendents, Superintendents, Foremen, Project Managers, Safety, and Operations leadership, the Quality Control Manager helps drive consistency across crews, reduce rework, improve field execution, and promote a culture of quality throughout the organization.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain quality standards, inspection procedures, testing requirements, and quality control processes for underground utility construction projects.
  • Conduct field inspections and quality audits to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee testing and inspection activities, including compaction testing, pressure testing, concrete testing, and related MAG requirements.
  • Document findings, track deficiencies, and verify timely completion of corrective actions.
  • Analyze quality trends and recurring deficiencies to identify improvement opportunities and reduce rework.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and corrective action efforts related to quality concerns, failures, and nonconforming work.
  • Partner with General Superintendents, Superintendents, Foremen, and Project Managers to address quality concerns and improve field execution.
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with project quality requirements and testing standards.
  • Review material submittals and verify materials used in the field meet project specifications.
  • Monitor quality performance and provide recommendations to improve quality, consistency, and operational performance.
  • Assist with training field personnel on quality standards, workmanship expectations, inspection procedures, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure testing records, inspection reports, and quality documentation are complete, accurate, and properly maintained through project closeout.


Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in underground utility, heavy civil, or related construction quality control.
  • Strong understanding of municipal wet utility construction, excavation, and backfill standards.
  • Thorough understanding of MAG specifications, testing requirements, and inspection standards.
  • Knowledge of applicable ASTM, ADEQ, OSHA, and related industry standards.
  • Experience conducting field inspections, quality audits, and corrective action activities.
  • Ability to analyze quality issues, identify trends, and recommend process improvements.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and project documentation software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.
  • Relevant QC/QA certifications preferred.
