Job description

Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Inspector.
Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located at our San Diego, CA HQ facility and reports to our Quality Supervisor.
Position Summary:
The Quality Inspector will be responsible for performing incoming, in-process, and final inspection of composite, mechanical, and assembled products to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and established quality procedures. The Quality Inspector identifies and documents nonconformances, supports resolution of quality issues, and applies sound inspection practices to maintain product conformity, traceability, and continuous improvement across aerospace, defense, space, and commercial manufacturing programs.
Essential Function:
  • Perform receiving, in-process, final, and first article inspections of composite materials, components, assemblies, tooling, and outsourced processes using applicable drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality requirements.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections using precision measurement equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, mylars, and CMM/CMS including articulated arm and laser tracker.
  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, purchase orders, customer requirements, and manufacturing documentation to determine product conformity.
  • Complete FAI documentation in accordance with AS9102, including Forms 1, 2, and 3 and ballooned drawings; DISCUS experience is preferred.
  • Accurately document inspection results, nonconformances, acceptance/rejection decisions, material certifications, and final inspection records while maintaining complete product traceability.
  • Identify and communicate design, process, workmanship, and quality issues, support nonconformance and corrective-action activities, and participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Operations, Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain, and customers to resolve quality issues, promote an engaged and energized workforce, and maintain the efficient flow of conforming products.
  • Maintain compliance with Rock West Composites' Quality Management System, AS9100/ISO 9001 requirements, company policies, procedures, and Code of Business Conduct in all quality activities.

Non-Essential Functions:
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school, college coursework, or certification in quality, manufacturing, metrology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant quality inspection experience, including at least 3 years in aerospace manufacturing or a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing receiving, in-process, final, and dimensional inspections of mechanical and/or composite components and assemblies.
  • Proficient in precision measurement and inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and comparable dimensional inspection equipment; CMM/CMS experience strongly preferred.

Compensation:
The hourly pay range for this position falls within $25-$30. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
