The Quality Engineer I role supports the manufacturing environment by ensuring product quality, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction. The role is responsible for the development of effective quality assurance policies and programs to ensure the organization produces quality products in a cost-effective manner.

Qualified candidates must be able to work an on-site schedule at our Frankfort, IN facility.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Supports product quality by development and implementation of methods and procedures for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection to ensure that the products are free of flaws and function as designed.

  • Performs product testing and analysis to ensure that potential defects and failure rates are minimized and quality levels are maintained in the most efficient and cost effective manner.

  • Implements sampling plans, statistical process control (SPC) techniques, and qualityassurance procedures.

  • Analyzes production limitations, standards, reports, and defective products to determine trends and recommends corrective actions.

  • Recommends revision of specifications when indicated.

  • Represents quality assurance in product design and development projects.

  • Develops the economics of any quality control programs when required.

  • Recognizes critical problem areas and potential consequences and seeks appropriate guidance to find alternate solutions.

  • Develops competence by performing structured work assignments.

  • Consistently seeks feedback and guidance of others in order to develop a more thorough understanding of products and customer preferences.

  • Uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems; receives instruction, guidance and direction from others.

  • Shows familiarity with new designs, methods, techniques, materials and other advances in engineering technology to increase production efficiency.

  • Recognizes potential use of emerging technologies. Assignments are well defined. Knows and applies fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical field with 6+ months of manufacturing, quality, engineering, or operations experience, including internships; or High School Diploma/GED with 6+ years of progressive quality, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or technical manufacturing experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Quality, Manufacturing, or related technical field.

  • Experience in a manufacturing quality engineering role, preferably in automotive, filtration, paper, industrial, or high-volume manufacturing.

  • Working knowledge of IATF 16949:2016 and/or ISO 9001:2015/Amd 1:2024 quality management system requirements; IATF internal auditor or lead auditor training preferred.

  • Working knowledge of AIAG Core Tools, including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, Control Plans, and related statistical quality tools.

  • Working knowledge of VDA quality management requirements, including VDA/AIAG harmonized standards, FMEA Action Priority, PPA, and Core Tool alignment preferred.

  • Experience with statistical analysis methods, including SPC, process capability, MSA, and Design of Experiments, DOE, to support process control, defect reduction, and continuous improvement.

  • Experience with structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa/fishbone, DMAIC, containment, corrective action, and verification of effectiveness.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, GD&T, and customer requirements.

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt, World Class Manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing, or equivalent continuous improvement training/certification preferred.

  • Strong data analysis and communication skills, including Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI, Oracle Analytics, ERP, QMS, calibration, or manufacturing data systems preferred, with the ability to work cross-functionally with production, engineering, maintenance, supply chain, suppliers, and customers.
