AIRO is developing the next generation of advanced General Aviation Avionics systems that will bring new levels of Functionality, Usability, Integration and Value to existing and new aircraft for a broad spectrum of General Aviation aircraft. AIRO is offering a unique opportunity to join a highly focused and motivated team of engineers in defining, designing, and implementing these advanced systems.
Position Overview: This a paid Internship opportunity for Six Months.
The Quality Engineer Intern supports quality assurance and quality control activities to ensure products meet engineering, regulatory, and customer requirements. This entry-level role focuses on developing knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS), performing inspections, analyzing data, and contributing to problem-solving efforts under supervision in an AS9100-regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities:
โ€ข Support the implementation and maintenance of the AS9100-compliant Quality Management System (QMS)
โ€ข Perform in-process and final inspections to verify product conformance to specifications
โ€ข Assist with First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with AS9102 requirements
โ€ข Review engineering drawings and specifications for basic compliance, including GD&T interpretation
โ€ข Collect and analyze quality data (e.g., scrap, rework, yield) to identify trends and improvement opportunities
โ€ข Participate in root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations using tools such as 5 Whys and Fishbone diagrams
โ€ข Assist with internal audits, audit preparation, and documentation control activities
โ€ข Ensure accurate documentation, traceability, and record retention in compliance with regulatory standards
โ€ข Support customer complaint investigations, including containment and corrective actions
โ€ข Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence
โ€ข Maintain compliance with company procedures, customer requirements, and regulatory standards
Qualifications:
โ€ข Basic understanding of AS9100 Quality Management Systems
โ€ข Familiarity with First Article Inspection (AS9102) requirements
โ€ข Fundamental knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and engineering drawing interpretation
โ€ข Understanding of J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards
โ€ข Knowledge of inspection methods, product verification, and quality documentation
โ€ข Ability to analyze data and interpret results using basic statistical methods
โ€ข Strong attention to detail with a focus on compliance and risk mitigation
โ€ข Effective communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams
โ€ข Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)
โ€ข Experience in aerospace or other regulated manufacturing environments (e.g., medical, automotive, defense)
โ€ข Familiarity with FAA regulations, PMA requirements, and airworthiness standards
โ€ข Exposure to ERP/MRP systems and quality data management systems
โ€ข Knowledge of configuration management and document control practices
โ€ข Basic understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process capability
โ€ข Familiarity with electro-mechanical assembly processes
Education:
โ€ข In Progress of bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
โ€ข 0-2 years of experience in quality, manufacturing, or engineering environment
โ€ข ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Technician (CQT)
โ€ข AS9100 Internal Auditor certification or equivalent audit training
Physical and Mental Requirements:
โ€ข Standing and sitting for extended periods of time,
โ€ข Lifting up to 25 pounds in a safe and prudent manner,
โ€ข Ability to work and communicate well with other employees and management, customers, visitors, vendors.
โ€ข Ability to perform work utilizing manual dexterity of the hands,
โ€ข Ability to push, pull, bend, stoop, reach above and below shoulders, and full use of upper extremities,
โ€ข Ability to easily move through an approximately 25,000 square foot warehouse building,
โ€ข Ability to read, write, and understand English,
โ€ข Correctable vision and hearing.
