Quality Engineer Full Time information

What does a quality engineer do?

A Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that products and processes meet established quality standards and requirements. They develop and implement quality control systems, conduct inspections and tests, analyze data to identify defects or areas for improvement, and collaborate with production teams to resolve quality issues. Quality Engineers also help create documentation, train staff on quality procedures, and work to maintain compliance with industry regulations. Their goal is to ensure that the final products are reliable, safe, and meet customer expectations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quality engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quality Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, quality control methodologies, and a relevant degree such as in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering. Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) like ISO 9001, statistical analysis tools, Six Sigma certification, and software such as Minitab or SAP is highly valued. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication help Quality Engineers identify issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These skills are vital to ensuring products meet standards, reducing defects, and maintaining customer satisfaction in competitive markets.

How does a quality engineer typically interact with cross-functional teams to ensure product standards are met?

Quality Engineers work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to uphold product quality from development through production. They participate in design reviews, develop test protocols, and address manufacturing issues by collaborating with various departments. This cross-functional approach helps identify potential quality concerns early and fosters a culture of continuous improvement. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Quality Engineers often lead root cause analyses and corrective action initiatives with input from multiple stakeholders.

Job description

Quality Engineer

At ReLogic Research, you won't be just another headcount. We're a tight-knit team of engineers, physicists, and technical professionals solving complex challenges in national defense - and we're looking for a detail-oriented Quality Engineer who takes pride in getting it right the first time.

As an AS9100D-certified small business supporting the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Missile Defense Agency, we operate in a highly regulated environment where quality isn't an afterthought - it's built into everything we do. This is an opportunity to grow a quality career in a fast-moving defense manufacturing environment with real ownership and visibility across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the company Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with AS9100D
  • Review and interpret quality requirements from customer drawings, contracts, and purchase orders and provide technical input on quality flowdowns to operations and manufacturing
  • Support First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation and coordination
  • Interface with customer quality representatives on quality submittals and non-conformances
  • Support internal and external audits including AS9100D surveillance and customer source inspections
  • Develop and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, and process documentation
  • Track and manage non-conformances, corrective actions, and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Support root cause corrective action (RCCA) investigations and effectiveness verification
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing to ensure quality requirements are understood and implemented on the shop floor
  • Work closely with the Quality Technician to ensure inspection activities are properly documented and traceable

Required Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in a quality, manufacturing, or technical role - or equivalent education and experience
  • Familiarity with quality management systems or quality standards
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, quality, business, or related field
  • Familiarity with AS9100D quality management requirements
  • Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation
  • Experience with CAPA and RCCA processes
  • Experience interfacing with government or defense customer quality representatives
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with CMM and 3D scanning inspection methods and how results are interpreted against engineering drawings and GD&T requirements
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, kaizen, or quality management systems as practiced in precision manufacturing or automotive environments - experience with Japanese manufacturing methodologies or companies operating under these principles is a plus
  • ASQ certification (CQE, CQT, or similar) a plus

This is a full-time salaried position with highly competitive compensation based on experience and skills, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for career growth.
