Job Overview

The Quality Engineer 1 is responsible for the deployment of processes and controls that ensure assemblies consistently meet design and quality requirements. This role supports production operations through process oversight, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, inspection planning, and continuous improvement initiatives. The individual will work cross-functionally with manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, and program management teams to maintain compliance with AS9100 requirements while driving product reliability, process capability, and operational efficiency.

Essential Functions

  • Generate inspection checklists, procedures, and instructions to ensure repeatable product conformance.
  • Analyze quality data, trends, scrap, rework, and yield metrics to identify opportunities for process improvement and defect reduction
  • Lead and facilitate root cause investigations for internal defects and product escapes using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, PFMEA, and fault tree analysis.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance procedures and processes to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for process improvement and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of quality processes, test results, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant quality standards, regulations, and industry requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Practiced in the creation of inspection forms, attribute checklists, and characteristic acceptance documentation packages with respect to industry standards (e.g. AS9102).
  • Skilled in review of fabrication/manufacturing plans with respect to electronic component assembly and systems integration industry specifications (e.g. IPC J-STD-001).
  • Able to use metrology and statistical methods to validate quality control practices and verify inspection sampling calculations.
  • Adept at performing defect and root cause analysis to enable continuous improvement over the entire product life cycle.

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (desired but not required)
  • ASQ CQE/CQA Certification (desired but not required)

Experience

  • 3+ years of relevant work within the aerospace industry.
  • Experience with AS9100 quality systems and aerospace manufacturing processes.
  • Experienced with standards for the development of system design and integration testing methodologies (e.g. MIL-STD-810) and the associated documentation standards (e.g. DI-NDTI80809/81794).
