Job description

Overview

The QC/QA Technician is responsible for the inspection of all incoming finished goods to ensure that all Vitamin Shoppe products conform to established GMP Quality Standards as well as the maintenance of Market Withdrawal/Recall duties.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all activities following current standard operating procedures.
  • Sample and inspect incoming finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Perform organoleptic testing and Certificate of Analysis reviews for incoming products against Vitamin Shoppe established GMP specification requirements.
  • Perform disposition tasks to ensure release of quality materials.
  • Maintain the storage and purging of retention samples.
  • Maintain the QC Database ensuring it is current and accurate.
  • Gather and forward designated products slated for contract lab analysis.
  • Assist in conducting investigation of product and health complaints. Check the batch records, retain, and Certificate of Analysis on file for lot in question to aid in the disposition decision.  
  • Assist in maintaining Warehouse GMPs including insect and rodent control, Warehouse temperature and humidity, product adulteration prevention, internal audit, and log book maintenance.
  • File and purge paperwork.
  • Remain current on Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) regulation requirements and company policies relative to personal hygiene, sanitation, wearing apparel, etc.

Secondary Functions:  (The Secondary Functions are to be performed when there are Pending or In Progress Market Withdrawals. These functions are performed regularly, seriously impacts other jobs, and there are a limited number of employees whom performance of the function can be distributed. These functions are performed when all daily release functions are completed).

  • Assist in the administration of Product Recalls and Market Withdrawals.
  • Assist with the maintenance of product recall and market withdrawal inventory, store responses, receipt of product, disposition of product, and count for affected product.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications

Required Knowledge:   

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of intellectual instruction and work experience

Required Knowledge:                             

  • Strong computer skills to include MS Word, Excel and Outlook (email)
  • Basic knowledge of software Manhattan, JDA, PIM and Bamboo Rose

Experience Required:                              

  • Six months packaging experience

Skill and Ability:                                          

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must possess a positive attitude
  • Ability to speak with clear and professional oration
  • Liaison with internal and external customers
  • Analyze and interpret unusual product observations
  • Interact will all levels of management
  • Perform with a strong attention to detail
  • Good organization and follow-up
  • Able to display a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Flexible availability to work overtime with not much notice
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Database Maintenance
  • Scientific language and knowledge of dietary supplements
