Quality Lab Chemist

Huntsman is seeking a Quality Lab Chemist supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in McIntosh, AL. This position will report to the Sr. Quality Manager.

Job Scope

The Quality Lab Chemist provides efficient and high-quality support to the Analytical & Quality Control Laboratory and manufacturing teams. This role also supports analytical technical development, technical service, global research, and pilot plant activities across the Huntsman Advanced Materials business.

The primary responsibility of this position is to apply chromatographic techniques and various sample preparation and analytical methods (FTIR, NIR, X-ray, DSC, and others) to generate qualitative and quantitative data for production teams and internal and external customers. The Analytical Chemist also supports analytical specialists and senior specialists on more complex assignments to meet the business needs of the McIntosh site.

In Summary, as the Quality Lab Chemist you Will:
  • Fully comply with Huntsman EH&S and Product Stewardship standards while maintaining proper laboratory housekeeping and adherence to PPE requirements.
  • Perform a variety of quality control analyses using HPLC, GC, FTIR, DSC, X-ray, particle size analysis, NIR, and other analytical techniques.
  • Support Laboratory Technicians, Operations personnel, and R&D teams with sample preparation, testing, and reporting activities.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment remains in operational condition through regular maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Maintain accurate records related to equipment usage, maintenance, and calibration.
  • Organize and manage laboratory analyses while maintaining appropriate inventory levels of reagents, chemicals, and consumables.
  • Review and document experimental data and prepare analytical and technical reports on a regular basis.
  • Develop, update, and maintain standard operating procedures, laboratory operating documents (LODs), test methods, and work instructions for new analytical capabilities.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of laboratory activities within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Ensure effective communication among laboratory team members and foster strong working relationships across Quality, Manufacturing, Technical, and Business Development organizations.
  • Support communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the collection and analysis of laboratory performance metrics to identify trends and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain laboratory KPI boards and communicate safety, quality, and productivity performance to the laboratory team and site leadership.
  • Develop a strong understanding of process chemistry, products, and applications to support data interpretation and problem-solving activities.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or another Applied Science discipline required.
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant laboratory, analytical, manufacturing, or quality control experience.
  • Chromatography experience is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Experience performing analytical testing using chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques.
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or similar laboratory data management tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general computer systems.

  • Green Belt certification.
  • Proficiency in a second language, preferably German or French.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, research, or pilot plant operations.
