Primary Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations

●             Interface with cross functional teams, including facilities, EHS, and other operational teams.

●             Oversee daily lab operations of multiple research labs ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality across all experimental workflows while maintaining an innovative environment.

●             Manage general lab best practices, including safety, access, and general training for lab users including chemists, technicians, and lab assistants.

●             Manage preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate service for lab equipment and instrumentation.

●             Monitor and control inventory of raw materials, reagents, polymers, solvents, and consumables.

●             Drive continuous improvement in lab procedures and process workflows.

●             Occasional experimental execution for clearly defined SOP to support research staff.

Chemical Safety & Compliance

●             Enforce all chemical safety protocols, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and internal safety standards set by Meta’s EHS team

●             Maintain a comprehensive Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) and conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance.

●             Ensure up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and accurate digital chemical inventories.

●             Lead incident investigations and corrective action planning in case of safety violations or accidents.

●             Supervise hazardous waste handling, labeling, and disposal in compliance with regulations.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) & Lab Safety

●             Define and enforce PPE requirements tailored to specific lab tasks and material risks.

●             Provide training and oversight to ensure consistent PPE usage across personnel and contractors.

●             Conduct safety briefings, drills, and risk assessments regularly to promote a culture of safety awareness.

Chemical Intake, Inspection & Tracking

●             Manage the intake and logging of all chemical shipments, ensuring proper identification, documentation, and storage.

●             Conduct quality and safety checks on newly received chemicals before introduction into lab workflows.

●             Coordinate secure storage of reactive, flammable, corrosive, and temperature-sensitive materials.

●             Ensure all materials are tracked using approved systems and aligned with the site’s chemical approval process.

Documentation, SOPs & Training

●             Manage and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for lab activities, safety protocols, and equipment use.

●             Provide onboarding and ongoing training for lab staff in best practices, emergency procedures, and regulatory compliance.

●             Maintain documentation for audits, inspections, and certification purposes.

Qualifications

Required:

●             Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, or a related field.

●             Minimum 5 years’ experience in an industrial lab environment, including 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial role.

●             Strong working knowledge of chemical handling, synthesis operations, and polymer materials.

●             Demonstrated understanding of lab safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, GHS).

●             Proficiency with inventory management systems and lab documentation practices.

Preferred:

●             PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, or a related field.

●             Experience working in a synthesis research lab.

●             Certification in Chemical Safety, Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO), or equivalent.

●             Experience supporting product development, formulation, in R&D setting.

●             Familiarity with ERP/LIMS systems and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

●             Position requires routine use of PPE, including lab coats, gloves, safety glasses, and respirators where applicable.

●             Must be able to lift containers up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as standing, reaching, and handling materials.

●             Exposure to chemicals, solvents, and laboratory equipment in a controlled industrial lab environment.
